Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Max, nice to see you have finally become a regular flocker, like the rest of us. Nice looking birds you have there. It is hard not to check on them every minute of the night. You'll get used to them being alright on their own. Good luck with them.

Maxx; Congrats on the chicks

I had orchard orioles several years ago nest in the giant tulip tree in our yard . The Baltimore is singing away in the same tree. There were 3 in the tree early last night ;2males and a lady. You should of seen the 2 males going at it.I wish men fought over me like that. They are so high up it will be impossible to get nice photos.

Maybe you can set out orange halves near a spot where you can grab a shot? I took those pictures with a telephoto lens in the yard. I edited it in iPhoto to lighten it since it was at dusk. I do have a wildlife camera but the shots aren't as defined.

Come visit! I'll take you to the Bronx Zoo and we can spend the whole time checking out birds. You have to see the Tibetan pheasant - it looks like Kevin from the movie Up!
that place is the BEST! back When I lived in the city, I used to get "dragged" along their all the time, I loved it, but I couldnt let anyone else know that or my middle school friends might have thought I wasnt cool!

We got locked OUT of the Bronx Zoo once. My son was very young and we went to Arthur Ave. for lunch When we got back to the gates they were locked. Hailed a cab to drive us around to the parking lot entrance but it was also locked. Our car was behind the locked gates and it was getting dark. The cab was long gone.My son Adam was getting scared (he was only 5/6 at the time)We decided to climb over the fence ~ 10/12 feet high. My husband went , then Adam climbed that fence like I have never seen him move before (or since). I refused to leave the large pot of Basil I had bought behind . Wasn't that a sight trying to get that over.Got to our car and started driving around inside the Bronx Zoo.Finally found a security guard to let us out. OH what memories ...Of course no Photos... I love that place...

I think we should organize a BYC field trip to the Zoo. We always go.

Last year, the whole family from all over NYS met up there. We had a great time until Laura lost her keys. We had to drive all the way back to Huntington for a spare set, then back to the Bronx to pick up the car. Security let us in and we drove the the dark zoo to the lot where her car was. Very cool to be there at night! Someone eventually turned in the keys but we never picked them up. Don't have that car anymore anyway...

Let's all go!!!

I'm in! My husband works around there! My kids love the zoo. But I'm too old and mature to enjoy seeing all those sweet animals...NOT! I think I can spend hours looking at baby giraffes!! And I LOVE the wolves and big cats. Oh, and the deer. I love the Congo exhibit. Oh, and PENGUINS!!!! I LOVE THEM! The Polar bears are funny, and OH YEAH! THE SEA LIONS!!!

Nah, I hate the zoo.
