Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Was at the eyeglass shop in town yesterday, maybe 20 blocks from my house, and the customer standing next to me at the counter heard me chatting to the optician about my pet chickens and she (the customer) said she has backyard chickens too! And she lives right here in Freeport!

She understood enough English to know what I was talking about, but the receptionist did all the interpreting for us from Spanish to English.

She said she keeps them for the eggs, and that they live under her backyard deck. Amazing! I was flabbergasted. Right here in the same Village with me!!

Hi All. Been a long long time since I have been on here... wondering if anyone had a GOOD QUALITY Silver Laced Wyandotte Roo available for breeding?

Hope all is well... lots of drama here.. but, what is life without it!

Carolyn in Putnam Valley, NY!

Planted marigolds and sunflowers today, kinda late but I got it done. Looking for local catMint plants to repel Mosquitos but haven't found any yet. Boo. I'm going to set up the aero grow hydroponic garden I got my dad for Christmas. He shoved it in the basement /shrug. At least the folks are using the gps I got them for their road trip to AZ, they used it to find AAA to get maps !!!
Hahaha, old people + technology don't mix. Next Christmas they are getting gift certificates. If it didn't exist before 1990 they just can't cope. At least they now use cell phones, but not smart phones, just the simple phone, flip it open to answer, flip it closed to hang up. My mom did finally
learn to text tho, so maybe she has hope.

4 colanders and counting
NICE! I'll be over for meal time by 6, ok?

Just finished weeding my whole garden for the first time in forever and I'll be lucky to get something that nice this year

Hey Donna, I want a Redneck New York State tee now, ok? :)

Was listening to Country XM radio in the backyard while wearing my overalls and "Got Rhubarb?" shirt on and I thought I want that, surely there are many others who want it too. Get some made up and sell them at the state fair in August. Just don't put the Southern Cross flag on it. Maybe Statue of Liberty wearing a bandanna? The NY state flag indian holding a pitchfork?

Did I post the pic of the Northern Flicker that got stuck in our strawberry netting? The good news is it got free very easily and unscathed. Also I trapped a baby raccoon this morning instead of the remaining fox. Oops. He's going to be released to a state park this afternoon, hurray.

Dumped the contents of the weed bag, dirt, worms and all, into the chicken run and after they got done freaking out over the big green thing in their house they got very quiet and got to picking apart the goodies. If only I could train them to delicately weed the veggie plot!

PS and yes, I am true to form and I fed the 'coon some dog food while he is awaiting transport. Not gourmet bologna but still, can't let a guest leave hungry, right?
