Hi all. Thought I'd let you know that I decided to put Gladys in lockdown for a few days to get her used to the coop and hopefully break her of the habit of roosting in the tree.

I worked today but Bobby was home. He told me she spent most of the day roosting in the coop, came down to the run a few times to eat, but was perfectly calm. He went to the pop out door to check on her and she was just roosting on her perch. (He was worried. He's so cute.)

I have to work again Thursday and Friday so I think I'll just leave her where she is. Bobby's working tomorrow too, so I'd just as soon she was cooped up rather than being a hawk target.

So far so good. Thanks for all the great advice - and understanding!!

We tend to over worry ourselves and they simply need the simple stuff that we can again....simply provide.

Yep, I lost another bird to the hawk today. But I kind of wanted it that way. I have a few Pea fowl, bad hatch...One is having problems seeing, the other has a club foot, getting worse as it got older.
Stuck out sideways, couldn't roost. I left them outside today, the hawk did me a favor. I know it sounds mean, but I think it was for the best.
DH is not happy, but what kind of life could it have had being crippled? I already have another silkie that we are building a cart for, another cripple named Gimpy.
Sweet as can be, just the legs are so twisted up, pointing backwards. Now that is a lap chicken!
Just starting to rain here. Anyone else getting crappy rain?

Rain here in Huntington, too. A good time to lockdown a wayward chicken! Stuck my head in to say high and she didn't peck my eyes out, so I guess that's a good sign. Was thinking of adding an ear of corn to the run to give Gladys a little treat during her "spa time". Figured it would be entertaining. She loves cracked corn and I hear the carbs helps them stay warmer at night now that the nights are getting colder.

I am AMAZED

at how much the chicks are changing every day. I showed them off to my mom yesterday (her grandchicks) and today they look totally different. Wanda (my BR) is almost all striped and Shirley's (Golden Comet) getting her brown feathers. What a difference a day makes!

Good news on the job front, too. Life is good!

Our Golden Comets grew before our eyes. So did the Amber Links. They did Change from day to day, like you said. Hardly enough time to enjoy those little fluff balls in your hand. At about five to six weeks they looked scruffy and fairly ugly. Now, at six months they look fabulous! My girls are the cutest.

It's 50 degrees and raining here. A miserable night. The trees have turned color the past couple of days and it looks as if fall came in overnight. Well, it's only going to rain until Friday! Ugh...
