Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Al, I am sorry to hear about your dog's passing. We all know what we are getting into when we take these animals into our hearts, but it is so hard to say goodbye anyway. I know one thing though, both of your lives were better for having known each other.

I didn't know you have RA; I have MS. Seems like both diseases have had a few new medications come out in the past couple of years. I haven't switched up yet though, I'm still in the early days, hoping to avoid too much steroid usage. I hope your new meds work well for you. I do think anyone with an autoimmune disease needs to practice mindfulness and stress-reduction, something you clearly have a handle on already.

Congratulations to your son and his new wife, may they be happy forever. :)

Thanks, Heather. Sorry you have to deal with MS. I know what you mean about stress reduction. I use biofeedback to get to the mindfulness state. It really does help.

Actually, I have PsA (Psoriatic Arthritis) which had gone undiagnosed for years. I injected the Humira a half hour ago. At least I know I'm not allergic to it. At $1500 an injection, I hope this stuff works. Glad I have good insurance.

Hi guys, I've been reading about all the ups and downs, health issues etc that everyone is facing. Just want you all to know that even though I don't post a reply to each person, I am very empathetic to everyone's situation. I always send good thoughts, prayers and good wishes your way. We also have health issues in our family (including ovarian, colon cancer) plus my daughter and sister both have disabilities. So, for me chickens are a wonderful form of therapy. :)

Truthfully, I have spent way too much time on the computer this summer and have to get back to focusing on my small not for profit that supports families caring for individuals with developmental disabilities. I may not be on BYC as much going forward, but I'll pop in here and there. I'm also happy to share my cell number w/anyone who may want to reach me by text.
Best wishes,
Tina

Ps- I'm still interested in some sort of silkie "co-op", so pls keep me in mind.

Heather, Harvey Ussery has a thing he does that lifts his waterer up and keeps the floor and bedding dry. His book is great, but he must have a lot of energy to run things so efficiently...he uses a shallow base container that is wider than the water container. Then he has a framed sturdy mesh that the waterer can sit on. When water is slopped out of the waterer it passes through the mesh and is caught in the lower container which can just be dumped out.

Hi Al; Sorry to hear about your dog. I know how hard it is.Just remember all the good times you had with him. I still miss my two dogs .We had to put them down last year.I keep telling my husband that are french bulldog; Renfield needs a buddy. I'd love to get another cattle dog.

Well if my husband sees these kids on the patio table he is going to rehome me.

This one better be a girl ;she is a beauty. That goodness the table was dirty from all the rain.
Pretty birds! I think its a she.

That sounds interesting. I am thinking I will start by trying to dump outside more as well. Feels like I am always trying to come up with a better solution. Digging a 2ft hole in very hard, clay soil is most likely not going to happen, no matter how buff it will make my arms look, lol.

What book was that from?

How kind of you to post this. Please don't feel guilty about making friends, even if we're just computer peeps! I agree that animals of all sorts are wonderful therapy for the soul. I'm reading Life, Love and Elphants right now, which Suzanne recommended to me, and she describes keeping every sort of animal you can imagine as rehab demands. Apparently zebras and goats have a lot in common when I comes to snacking on things! I may pass on your link to some friends of mine as well.

I hope you all do start a silkie co-op and develop a new Chiken Fairy Godmother breed! Imagine the coloring possibilities!
