Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

You have to watch the shipping charges.  But I found some good deals.  One thing I'm bidding on is yarn made from recycled sari silk.  It looks gorgeous.  I'm looking forward to seeing how it works up.

Suzanne, I bought a huge hank of that when I was in CT last year of course it is sitting in a bag. So much yarn so little time.
Hope you win the auction.

How do you make your sauce? I'm contemplating doing the same this year.

It's an all day affair.
Sauté garlic(home grown) an onions in olive oil
Add the cored tomatoes and paste and fresh herbs also from my garden
Oregano, basil and thyme and let simmer KEEP STIRRING
Also add salt
Sometimes I add a little red wine
When it's simmered for several hours on low you stir it through a food mill to get the skins and seeds out
Let it cool and put it in containers to freeze label with date

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I'm in bed and every 3 hours round the clock, I take Vicodin or 800 mg ibuprofen, alternating them. Not getting much soeep, but pain is in control. My hubby says it is a nice day out....so I hope you all are enjoying the weather.

I feel for you. There is a cure someone told me of, and I tried it on my last kidney stone that had been in the ureter for at least 3 weeks. The urologist saw it at almost the end of its journey two weeks prior. The remedy was a shot of organic apple cider vinegar with "the Mother," mixed in a glass of water and after that a shot of olive oil. I know, I know, it sounds like a salad dressing, but within 24 hours it is supposed to work. It did at about 20 hours. Either it was a coincidence because I took it the last day when the pain kept me from going to work and the stone may have been moving anyway. The stuff tastes nasty I will warn you if you want to give it a go.

Make sure you do keep hydrated with plenty of fluids, preferably water.

Good luck. Feel better.

Sounds delicious! Maybe you could add a shot of wheat grass and call it "salad in a glass", lol!

I thought I heard they were using sonic waves to break up stones now, or is that some sort of super hero myth? Can any of you survivors shed light on what causes them so those of us yet to experience it can avoid this particular agony?

Hi Heather! I like the idea of the wheatgrass. If you google that remedy it does have some merit. Like I said, for me, it worked. Ad that stone had bothered me for a total of three months.

Getting to your question, yes, they do use sonic waves to break up stones that are too large to pass. It can prevent surgery in many cases.

What causes them are still hard to determine, but they can be analyzed so if you know which type you have you can avoid certain foods. Oxylate stones means you have to avoid spinach and other veggies. Calcium oxylate stones require you to stay away from milk and other dairy. If you have too many oxylates in your system they will crystallize and cause stones. Most pass and you never know. If they are too large they can stay in the kidney and pieces break off and then cause pain. You can get blood in the urine from a stone when it's moving. I've had it to where I thought I was making Merlot. It is scary, but as long as it is nothing else it is more frightening than worrisome. At least in most people.

I don't think you should worry about cutting out detain foods in order to prevent them unless you have had stones and caught one to have it analyzed. If you haven't had kidney stones don't worry then. If you do get one it will make itself known. Then you can deal with it.

I will say that keeping hydrated lessens the chance of getting stones in the first place. It also helps with things like gout, which is almost the same thing but uric acid crystals settles in your joints and it can give you a lot of joint pain.

Sorry I've given you more info than you wanted, but at least you now have a basic understanding. If you ever get one or think you are getting an attack, see the doctor or go to the ER. Once the pain starts it only gets worse. It can last a short time or days and weeks.

I've heard about the apple cider vinegar. I think the acid in the vinegar breaks up the crystals or something. I was always better at physics than chemistry anyway.

I won the auction for the sari silk yarn. And I chose a cheaper/slower shipping option so it came out to be only $5 a hank. A pretty good buy for first quality, from what I can tell.

I was looking for something in my little (craft) room. Boy oh boy do I have yarn math down pat!! If you look up the word compulsive in the dictionary, you can see my picture.

Thank you so much for the tips. I only have regular ACV in the house, so I started drinking it a short while ago. I'm not sure if I can keep down the oil, since I've had extreme vomiting and only have a few Zofran tablets left to cut the nausea.

On Friday, my symptoms started out like a typical Urinary Tract Infection...but then I developed pain in my back ... and pain in my abdomen...mostly on the right side along with vomiting and diarrhea. I thought that it was appendicitis. I think my problem originated with being a bit dehydrated and not using the restroom enough. When I am in "caregiving mode" for my daughter and sister, I will often completely forget to use the ladies room.

I learned a lesson from this experience...which is to NOT the ER staff rush me out the door when they think my pain is under control. Twice, I was given different strong pain medications that suddenly wore off after 1.5 hrs. It ultimately took about 6 hrs and a combination of 2 more meds to get the pain in control.
