Ugh. I hate hawks, and anything else that wants to eat my babies. We've had a HUGE "murder" of crows hanging around lately-screeching all day-the girls don't want to come out from under their forsythia bush.Wow. I just went out to feed (silence) the chickens. As I was throwing out some scratch for them, they all freaked out and scattered. A hawk flew right over my head and landed on a branch right over the coop. I quickly herded the girls and Leon back into the coop, but while I was doing that, the hawk passed over the yard three times, each time landing on a branch with a good view of the yard. Scary shiRt.
Needless to say, the girls will be spending the day in the run.![]()
Do you think it would help if I put up a sign that says "All You Can Eat Buffet is out of chicken. Try a rat instead."?
I'm always happy to see the crows because they chase the hawks.Yes, right after I posted, I hear screaming outside. Little shiRt hawk was outside antagonizing my babies.
I know everyone hates crows, but so do hawks. So feed the crows, and the hawks won't be around as much.
Ha ha ha, maybe you can make little chicken outfits for the rats instead? I had a hawk stalking our yard for a number of days last year, hmm I think it was fall then too.... maybe this is fattening up time before winter That would explain why I've been pigging out on everything lately.Wow. It's an art and a science, I hear you! Yesterday we were running around like mad, couldn't find shoes, socks, etc. Today we had so much extra time we walked around the block with the dog before waiting for the bus with the oldest. Go figure. Right after I dropped off the last one I ran to the nail salon to get the hooves trimmed, it's been a while, lol.Ugh. I hate hawks, and anything else that wants to eat my babies. You can try the sign, maybe the squirrels can read it to the hawks.
What a busy morning, and it's not looking to get any less crazy. I don't think the art of coordinating waves of departures to the bus, and getting husband out to work is given enough attention.Waking, feeding, finding lost socks, packing lunch, and remaining cheerful and not insane-it's hard work. Thank GOD I get off at 9am.![]()

Of course today I have to shop for produce-I'm going to take a ride to Lewens, then I have to make dinner early, more football practice tonight, and then a game away in Kings Park tomorrow. (JV) I have to stock up on dog food and more chicken feed-I just finished reading "One second after" (Good book, if you like Post Apocalyptic fiction) and I need to sleep at night-so I'm stocking up.
What does everyone have planned for this weekend-I'm loaded with 3 kids football games then NFL Sunday! Cleaning the house a bit, and playing with the chickens (I know, I'm a little obsessed) and planning out next week.
Happy Friday everyone!!
