Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hey everybody!  My name is Carol, I'm in Dutchess county - Union Vale to be exact.  I enjoy this place, loads of wonderful people and good information.

I've had a small flock of chickens for a couple years now. I don't have an incubator but I did have a broody Marans this year.  I put two EE eggs under her and lucked out, one hatched.  I had foster mom and chick separated for a couple of weeks but Mama was so unhappy I put everyone all together and thank goodness it all worked out.  I think the cutest thing is when I go into the coop, Mama is on the overhead roost and baby is all tucked underneath her.  Adorable.

Hope to get to know you all better!

Welcome! I'm from Dutchess County in the Poughkeepsie/Hyde Park area. My daughter and I have a laying flock and now we are getting into breeding show quality silkies. We just love being chicken "moms"!

I won't believe they are female until I see eggs.

All I'm going to say is, if you thought waiting for them to be shipped was hard..... just try waiting for your first egg! My daughter and I got so desperate I put a Cadbury's chocolate egg in the box. She actually thought the chicken had laid it for an hour before I had to break the truth that there was no such thing as a chocolate-egg laying hen. I hated to break her heart!

Godiva chicken? If there was I'd own a dozen.

If Heather's chickens keep moulting the way they are, they'll be Lady Godiva chickens.

Thank you very much for the offer. I'm hoping to bring Lindsey to the show on Saturday.

I really could use some positive chicken thoughts from y'all. I took the plunge and bought show quality silkies for Lindsey. They were shipped on Thursday of this week with a guaranteed delivery by 12 noon yesterday. Unfortunately, they haven't arrived yet...sigh.

The PO uses FedEx to ship poultry...and is unable to determine where the birds are. A really nice woman at my local PO "hub" has been kind enough to call me periodically to let me know there are no signs yet of our birds. I am hoping that these birds arrive alive and well.

It's a glorious day here and I have spent timeoutside cleaning the coop, holding the birds and trying to keep the rowdy young Roos quiet. I'm trying to keep myself busy, but it's impossible not to think and worry about the new birds.

Wow, anyone that ships birds should know the deal with shipping, and not have shipped them out so late in the week.
I will pray for them.

There HAS to be some tracking on them.

Thank you, Roberta. I'm getting so anxious. The breeder is a post office retiree and her hubby works at their PO district office. He hasn't been able to get any more info than I have been provided. I'm tempted to call FedEx and see if they can track the shipment using my PO shipping number. Your prayers and hugs are appreciated.
