So I wrote a short story - anyone interested in reading it? Open to any and all editorial comments and criticisms. Send me your email and I'll email it to you. Sadly though there are no chickens in it, just dogs and people.

I love it. Love that he was mad at the people that stopped him from blowing himself up. And I'm guessing the second story is that he didn't want to take his pills?

Sigh I can't believe it's only 11:30. Urgh
He didn't want to take his Phenobarbital.

I read it for sure. Definitely. And I'll give you feedback. Send it to me: [email protected]

I need the distraction from the storm. I'd go cook like the rest of you, but the house is so full of bread and cupcakes and cookies and pot roast, it will be a whole lot better for our waistlines if I just sit and read.

I've got my four hens locked up for the day. Went into the veggie garden and picked some fresh kale and carrot tops and some plain weeds and marigold flowers and dropped it all into the ChickArena for them as food/entertainment. One of the Buff Orps gave me her daily pinkish egg.

Send the story. Can't wait. (Two of my three kids are published authors; husband too. So I've read a few dozen manuscripts with blue pencil in hand.)

Here's the news from Coope Diem.  Everything is battened, flimsy sports car has been safely stowed in Bobby's Commack garage, chicken coop cleaned and water bottles filled.

As we were leaving to take the Corvette to the garage, Laura called to tell me she had been in a car accident.  A girl turned left into her front driver's side. No airbag trigger. Laura called the HMFD, who were still at the firehouse from the Sunday morning stuff.  She told me she was okay and not to come down.  Yeah right.  Like I hear fire engines and sirens and police cars going to my kid's accident and I'm going to stay home.  When I got there, there were 2 HMFD trucks and an ambulance.  They had her on oxygen and were strapping her to a back board.  We rode in the ambulance to the hospital, where she was checked out and pronounced okay.  Her LT and another FF were there the whole time and then her Captain came by.  Her boyfriend's mom came down and then, when he finally got the 42 text messages, her boyfriend left work (big OT) and showed up with flowers just in time to drive us home. (I had sent Bobby home with my car.)

All in all, it was just a lot of excitement.  She's gonna be hurting tomorrow - whiplash injuries and a bruised knee - but she has Motrin and Flexeril and a day off due to the hurricane. The car is another story.  I just took the collision off literally 3 days ago. But the guy whose shop who has it is an HMFD member and the other driver was totally at fault (and admitted it) so it will all work out.

Her ER nurse was another HMFD member, and Laura knew the ambulance crew.  They treated me with kid gloves and you could see how much they care about my daughter.  Her LT was awesome.  Everyone's been calling and texting her to make sure she's okay.  Does my heart good.

So we're all set for the hurricane.  I have craploads of yarn to work with and plenty of candles and batteries.  We have a generator, so we're good to go.  I'm not nervous (I tend to be skeptical about these things) but we did prepare.

My email is [email protected] if anyone needs to get in touch.  And Roberta, Heather, Donna, Rosie and I think Carol all have my cellphone number.  If anyone needs anything, even just to vent/cry/laugh/whatever, don't hesitate to call.

And if anyone has anything they want crocheted, let me know.  I plan to do nothing else.  I'm still laughing over Rosie's quote:  "I'll be crocheting and you'll be leaving me alone."

And finally, I'll share what I heard at a meeting this morning:  "If you face the sunlight, the shadows will always be behind you."

Stay safe, everyone.

Suzanne, glad to hear Laura is OK. You guys stay safe.

Thanks to all my chicken buddies for the well wishes. So many posts to catch up on. I need a couple of days to go through them.

I feel for all of you out on the Island. We have light rain now with occasional gusts followed by periods of calm. I'm sure it will be getting worse as time goes by.

Locked up the form flap on the coop but let the ladies out into the covered run. They've been going in and out of the coop. When the winds pick up I'll lock 'em up for the duration.

Stay safe, everyone. Hopefully all of us can keep our power.

Mine doing the same.. but silly roo is out in the uncovered part... just hanging out... Get inside Man~

It's getting scary outside. I sat out under the covered
porch for like 2 minutes. Sounded like I was under a
roller coaster. Eeek!

Our chickens are going in and out of the coop into their run...still laying eggs though. I will lock them up later on, when we get ready to bunker down.

Unfortunately, our trusty, reliable generator has decided not to work! My husband spent hours last night trying to fix it with no luck. This now affects all my plans. I was going to bring my daughter, sister and one of their personal care aides to stay at my house. Now, the three of them may have stay in my sisters apartment while my hubby and I stay at my house (to watch over all the animals).

This is really making me uncomfortable. I will be very worried if I can't be there to help take of my sister. I may have to ask my husband to stay at our house by himself, so I can be with the ladies.

Stay safe everyone!
