Hi All. Checking in from Huntington. Our neighborhood is a mess! Next door, our animal loving neighbors had their freshly-sided house hit by a tree, and lost 2 in back. Our back neighbors had a tree land on their deck and part of their house. Trees down all over the neighborhood, power lines down, etc. etc.
We lost power yesterday around 12:30 pm. We opted not to run the generator until the storm was past, so we hooked it up about 12:30 this afternoon. We were extremely lucky. Our ugly, unnecessary basketball hoop snapped its concrete footing and came down on the frame of the screen house. We were able to straighten the frame out and now we can easily get rid of the hoop, which we hated. A huge branch came down in the spot where Laura's car would have been if it hadn't already been wrecked in an accident. So we got off easy.
I have little or no cell phone service. Every so often a random text that's been floating around in the air for hours pops up. But now that the generator's running I've been able to check in with people via computer. I spent last night with a beautiful fire in the fireplace, alternately crocheting and reading. No power necessary.
Laura spent the night at her boyfriend's because their power lasted somewhat longer than ours and she needed her heating pad
. She's on medical leave from the FD, but checked in there this morning to charge up her phone, etc. It's nice that we have that back-up. She just came home and I'm happy to report she's feeling much better. She's probably gonna take tomorrow off (if her office is open) because she didn't use up any sick time over the last couple of days.
Tina, I'm glad it all worked out for you. Karen, I LOVE your EE, and all the chicken stories. I had to laugh when I saw how the fence fell around the coop instead of on it. Heather, my email is
[email protected]. Send the story! Rosie, and Roberta, thanks for checking in. I'm glad you're okay. Hell, I'm glad EVERYONE is okay. It was great to read all of the updates and well wishes. You are the BEST!!!
I read over all the angry family emails. I spoke briefly with my younger sister yesterday during a brief cell phone interlude. She is leading the charge this time so I don't have to go through the black sheep thing again. It is what it is. I have more important things to worry about. Like what to cook for dinner!
Hugs to all
