Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Sorry about the flu! We are all totally sick here too, but nothing to do but ride it out. I advocate Sudafed - the real stuff, not the knock-off - rest and fluids. Also the honey/lemon/hot water and if you're an adult, a shot of something strong to put you to sleep. Ginger, sage and honey are all antibacterial, if you can add that to a hot liquid, take it. Tina I can only imagine how hard it is to be sick when you are already tasked with caring for your daughter and sister. I am full of self-pity having had little ones coughing in my face 3-4times a night but at least they are small.

When all else fails, go breed shopping on the internet and decide what you'll be hatching in the spring! :-p

Donna I love your new avatar as welll, very cute!

Hello All
Tina sorry you and your family are ill. I had the flu once and swore I would do everything possible to never get it again. So that means I get the vaccine every year.
My son will be here from Boston in an hour. Can't wait......
Have a safe and joyous Christmas..Thanks for being my friends....

And so the craziness begins. The dog knocked over two of my three Christmas trees last night while looking for a place to hide his bone. Three broken ornaments..
4 years ago the tree fell over because I didn't get it in the stand correctly.if I want a tree and decorations I have to do it myself. Richard is a Bah Humbug and refuses to help. I even drag the thing into the house myself. I was just so crazed that I literally opened the front door and threw the tree onto the porch.the next morning my son Adam and I went out tree hunting. With Two days before Christmas not much to choose from. Ended up buying 3, four foot tinsel trees, one hot pink and two lime green. I have a tree forest . It looks like a scene out of the Grinch That stole Christmas movie. So not me , but my son loves it. Oh the memories....
Got my first seed catalog so I'm happy.
Need to wrap some presents but don't want to wake anyone.

Thanks for all the advice and kind words. The stories being shared make me chuckle despite my miserable state of being.

Oh gosh I keep forgetting to mention, I have totally dropped the ball on organizing the bronx zoo thing. Sorry! We were all sick, still hanging in there, and honestly I got in over my head. Maybe I will try to set it up for January. My bad! :(

On another note, I am debating getting a little coop, like a rabbit hutch type set-up, for the two bantams since they just aren't integrating well into the big-girl flock. I was also thinking that maybe I could have some quail in there with them.... ahem.... wouldn't that be just the most adorable project for a kindergarten class? Hatching little fuzzy bumblebee-sized chicks? Or am I completely insane? (No Comments!!!)

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve so Buon Natale for those of you cooking your way through the Seven Seas tomorrow night! I am just making lobster bisque and linguine with clam sauce, I've never had enough other seafood fans around to do the whole shebang but one of these years I'll cook an eel, I really will. I will eat it all alone but I will also cook it.

Did anyone else see this post Terry Golson wrote on her HenCam blog about vets and chicken keeping?

http://hencam.com/henblog/2012/12/why-i-dont-use-avian-vets/

I thought it was really great considering what some of us have been through in the past year with vets misdiagnosing stuff in our flocks. It breaks my heart to think that I might not be able to fix one of my birds if she got too sick, but on the other hand, that might be the most compassionate option after all. Worth a quick scan anyway.
