Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

This is pretty genius. I wish I found it before I planned my current set up. I might have to find a way to incorporate this plan. It is a large fenced area with a coop at the center front. Two fences run off the back of the coop to the surrounding fenced in area. This creates two yards on the sides of the coop and one small one in the back. chickens live on one side for a year, garden on the other (compost in the small yard), at the end of the year the chickens go to the other yard (just by opening a different pop door) and you till in the yard they were living in for next year's garden (along with the compost). Probably great for reducing the parasite load in the soil as well. I think I saw a design like this somewhere with 4 yards too, but didn't mention gardening in the others. Anyway, just thought I would share:

I've seen this before! I love it! Man, maybe I can go and do that right from the start with this new house. See, I am being positive. :)

Donna, look what came in the mail today!!! So excited. Ok so the photo booth camera flipped the images, but the point is, I am wearing all of it at once and it is all super cozy and comfy. This wide neck sweat shirt is especially awesome. I opened the mail package in front of my "Writing about Animals" friends, more on that later, and they all wanted your spreadshirt shop address. My writing class friends are all these amazing women I met through a continuing ed course offered at Sarah Lawrence. My awesome teacher Katie is offering it again in the spring, and I will be signing up for it. If any of you have an interest in trying some creative writing, I highly recommend it. I told them all about the NE Poultry show, and my friend Linda said she was interested in seeing it. She is this incredible woman that has worked with chimpanzees her whole career, founded a sanctuary in Louisiana for them - she's pretty cool. So can I give her your names etc so she can come say hi at your shops? This is the link to the writing course: http://nts.slc.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=1569&SectionID=2950 I am trying to find someone to take all my hens at once, but it is not going as well as I had hoped. I may really have to ask you all to take one each. Sigh. I just don't think it would be fair to them to ship them, I can't imagine not losing at least one to illness.
OMG I love the Farm Girl shirt! We have a newbie on the upstate thread, Tough Old Bird, that would like to start her flock with started pullets in the spring. She is just south of Syracuse. Maybe she would be interested?

Heather, I volunteer to deliver whichever hens will be coming out to LI. And although I can't take all 6, I will gladly take 2-3 together so they each have a friend. I will be selling my Light Sussex at the NEPC show next weekend, which brings me down to 9. I want to get a BCM and another EE, but will still have room for 2-3 of your girls.

And I LOVE the wideneck sweatshirt. Going to the website now!

I'm up to 35 chicks. Crocheted, that is...

Thank you for the suggestion, but I am about 5hrs from Syracuse. I am hoping for someone a bit closer than that. I have a few local/nearby possibilities that might take the whole thing, if not, I may just split them into groups of two. Thank you to everyone that offered a spot in your heart & flock, we shall see what happens. I am sure I can rehome them all since there are no Roos and no disease but I would prefer they go to friends that I know will care for them. Gah.

Anyone on Long Island... if you want me to pick up anything from Doc Brown, let me know.
I can bring it down and save $ on the shipping.
I STRONGLY recommend his emergency kits.

Hmm, I found out that American Airlines ships animals regularly. I am on hold with passenger reservations. I think I have completely stumped this poor agent. We shall see what she says.

Thank you so much for sharing this info! Very good to know.

Honestly, I feel that everyone ought to consider this kit. Think of it as a $25 insurance policy...if you have the kit you may never need it....but it's always there just in case. When I saw Doc at the NJ show, he explained that he buys the meds, vitamins etc in volume and then spends hours upon hours repackaging into smaller quantities (which are very generous) for the kit. We get far more than $25 worth of products.

Donna and Heather, I love this combination of tshirt and sweatshirt! May I ask if the sizing runs true? If I normally wear a large or extra large, do I need to go up a size? If I were to submit an order today, would I get it in time for the show?

Sorry, but I don't think they will deliver on time for the show. I will have the latest shirts at the show if you want.
