Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Maggie, PM me your address, I am going up to Mohegan tomorrow early, but hubby can drop at the post office.
The kit is $25, plus whatever the shipping is.
I *think* if I ship it regular, it should be there by Monday.
It is a little heavy, so unless you want me to overnight it....
Let me go weigh it and go on USPS site to see how much.

Hi, NYDucks, & Welcome!

I'm not sure if you know it or not, but there's a specific forum on this BYC website for ducks where you might get more duck-knowledgeable people to respond to your duck-related questions. That's at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Cheers,
-Carolyn

I'm so sad....my lav. orp is sickly for bout 36 hours now and i'm at whits end. I'd thought it was waking up yesterday morning to the very cold temps here but she isn't making a come around since bringing her inside to warm/feed/love her up. Housed in a well bedded crate at night in a draft free no heat shed......play time in grassy pen every day and medicated feed n treats. Fresh veggies...fruit.....scratch and bedding/water. gave vet rx and any kind of treats I can offer and she is un-onterested. :(.
.No apparent disease signs and even posting in the emergency/diseases section i cant find anything yet to help diagnose her.

She is lathargic/drinks/won't eat but a smidgeon/no impacted crop/no fowl poo althpouigh oit ios watery but pof goopd color.....no tumors/no mites/loce or worms seen in her poo etc.Pale comb...empty crop. No sniffles/sneezing/weepy anything. Breathing is great. she is fairly attentive.....but ....tail down and fluffed up. Oh my..........

I have no idea.
Hi, I had 2 hens sick with similar symptoms, unfortunately, they both died. They had been on and off sick for a few weeks. My friend who is a vet did a necropsy because we couldn't find a cause to their illnesses and it turned out they were both backed up with eggs. She seemed to think they could have had a virus and this somehow affected their laying. She also thought a stronger dose of antibiotics would have done the trick but I'm not sure. I tried everything I knew to help them while they were sick but they would improve for a few days and then get sicker than before. Wish I had better advice but it kind of sounds like what my hens went through.

I hope your hen gets better!

Just re-read this. Hubby didn't wake me up since I am usually up at 4 anyways.
Now I missed the ferry, and I get to feed ALL the animals because he is a.......man

Pale comb, in my opinion, is lack of blood. Probably worms, although I have a few drop dead from mites.

Never knew they were there, next thing they were eaten alive.
Look at her butt hole, it should look nice and warm and pretty and pink.
If there are any scabs at at all, she's got them.
Very tough to see unless you know what you are looking for.
And worms can be there, just not pooped out.

Pale comb may also be a heart condition. Remember the Lavs are the new designer breed, and who knows if her bloodlines were cranked out to make money.

The box should be there Monday, but I can't make any promises until the post office opens and I get a tracking #

Here is a pic of how my bird looked. After looking at the pics, I don't think my hen's comb was pale. But she was always puffed up, even when I had her inside trying to recuperate her.

Roberta may be onto something with possible mites or worms. I hope so, at least you might know what you are dealing with. I really hate it when they get sick.

Hi again, one more thought. Is she going through a heavy molt? That will sometimes cause a lot of stress. My molting hens have pale combs and the hunched stance you had mentioned. Especially when they are trying to keep warm.

Hi, what a beaiutiful bird she was.:<(( Sorry she is no longer with you.
My bird just turned 4 months old and isn't laying yet. Checked for mites and she's clean. They all are thankfully...........

Worms might be it roberta and I do appreciate your help.
Hmmmm.....heart condition eh? Another worry.............

Good morning All,
Sorry you' re having to deal with a sick girl Mags. Haven't been in a lab in a while but Tina and Dr. brown are correct sulfadimethoxine is a really good drug . You just have to make sure she is getting the correct dosage. You just shouldn't give it for long periods of time or prophylacticly cause the bacteria and protozoans (coccidians ) will become resistant. Sorry I can't help any further than that.
I'm buying my husband the reference book- Poultry Diseases for Christmas. I'm going to charge it to his business. He'll get the picture. He's a brilliant surgeon, we just have to get him to work on chickens.
