Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Morning Glory didn't come out as nice as I had hoped but she is my prettiest hen by far (even though the buffs because of their soothing color are still my favorite). I love her comb, eyes and proportions.

Did anyone else see this post Terry Golson wrote on her HenCam blog about vets and chicken keeping?

http://hencam.com/henblog/2012/12/why-i-dont-use-avian-vets/

I thought it was really great considering what some of us have been through in the past year with vets misdiagnosing stuff in our flocks. It breaks my heart to think that I might not be able to fix one of my birds if she got too sick, but on the other hand, that might be the most compassionate option after all. Worth a quick scan anyway.
Just visited there and it's a good read!

Guess who got a new camera for Christmas!

Still have to figure it all out!

In order:
Cutie
Terry
Morning Glory

Pretty ladies Donna!
Have fun with your camera. I gave my dh 1 for christmas and he can't put it down. LOL

Thanks for the offer, Tina.
I really don't know how busy I'll be.
I hired Suzanne to help out, she will also be bringing her crocheted goodies to sell!
Now that Christmas isover, I can stress on a new project.
Yay!

I use aside from DE, Sevin powder in the dustbath, and I also sprinkle it in the coops over the chips.
Those little ******** stay alive all winter, and I caught a super bug mite at one of the shows.
Had to Frontline everybody, and still battling these mites.
I started a thread for NEPC, in case anyone is lookingfor anything in particular.

Holy cow Donna, those photos are amazing! Seriously, you got the lighting so perfect. I am clearly just an amateur in comparison

Those pics are so pretty that I would frame them...

If you need any help you can just give me a holler at the show. Linz and I will be puttering around enjoying everything.

I've started making chicks to sell at the show. I'm going to do the following breeds:

Barred Plymouth Rock
Buff Orpington
Rhode Island Red
Black Australorp
White Leghorn
Speckled Sussex
White Crested Black Polish

I'm trying to decide if I want to add wings or not. When I get my big butt out of bed, I post a picture of the chicks - one with and one without. I kinda like them without.

Conservatively speaking (something I try to avoid), it takes me about an hour to do a chick. I'm going to try to make 60-70 for the show. That's about 4 a day. I'm committed to a granny square swap that I have to make 42 squares for.

Here are two Barred Rocks, one with wings, one without. This picture makes the winged one much cuter. I tend to lean toward un-winged. But maybe I'm influenced by the extra work!

Suzanne, you could sell the ones with wings for a higher price, since they are more work. Then people have a choice. They are very cute. Could you do some stitches, like an outline stitch to indicate wings on the sleeker variety? Just full of ideas for work, aren't I?
