I've got roos up the wazoo!
Gaaaaah! My only remaining silkie just crowed! He is a very sweet boy though, as long as he doesn't start any trouble he can hang out, otherwise, anyone want a blue silkie roo from Vera?

I also have a RIR boy that will need a new home soon, and a dark brahma roo that I don't have a place for. I know it is a long shot, but thought I would offer.

Welcome! Your wife will love the variety of egg sizes, shapes and colors that you get with home grown chickens.
Hello Long Islanders. I live in Central Suffolk and am at beginning stages of chicken hood. Got some great advice earlier, including joining this thread. I'm still needing to build a coop or completing it, but my main concern is where on Long Island I can get an Easter Egger, Rhode Island Red and a couple other good egg layers with potential for meat, if need be. I would like pullets for my first attempt so my wife will believe the benefits of the eggs quicker and then the chicks will come next...unless I get a couple pullets and a couple chicks. Any advice or direction is welcomed.
Nice to know so many chicken people on the Island.

Yay, you made it to the thread! Welcome, Mammo!

Easter Eggers and RIRs won't be hard to find using Craigslist. Our Easter Egger was listed as an "Ameraucana" or, knowing Craigslist ads, maybe even an "Americana" or "Ameracana."

We put those each into the search strong... and found Miss Mable Cluckworth!

Welcome mammo6 , you can find Pullets on Craigslist just be careful answering the ads. I posted an ad once trying to get rid of a couple roosters and "roosters"are code for something. The things people wanted to do that answered the ads were terrible. Freaks!!!

That's it warmheart...that black with silver or silver with black peeking through your other's in the picture, that's the one I want too. My neighbor has one...well he has a variety, total 8 that I have counted. So many I would like to have. I went on craigslist and found some $40 silkies in Commack that are 11 months old, though pretty, not one of my choices. You're girls are beautiful, can't wait to get mine.

Traveling to Clark Family Farms on Sunday to pick up our 4 hens( finally). We are adding them to the two girls we have, our new girls are 2 weeks younger than the 2 6 week old hens we have. Any advice? We are new to this. All the hens are "mild" personality and except one
Full size hens.

My "Araucana" looks just like your girl and from a "breeder". My others are just lovely, the main breeds are indeed what they are supposed to be (Speckled Sussex, Light Brahma and Buff Orpington) , but her "Araucanas" are Easer Eggers. One lays green and one lays blue, still nice, quiet and gentle pullets. Would not give them up for anything! Healthy, happy chickens!
