smkchick, yes, please, Pearl pictures when you can!

Rosie, I'm sorry Peri is being difficult. How frustrating for you! Who's your next in line of the pecking order in your group? Maybe if Peri gets separated out for a few days, her second-in-command might step up?

HarborviewHens, I love that little PVC tractor, that's so great! May I ask where you got it, or did you build it yourself? It looks so easy to move around!

Small Wheels in front and handles on the other end. All PVC.. I have trained them to walk up into it and then back home for those meal worms as a lure. :drool
That's really cool! My property probably wouldn't even work for that. It's a nightmare. Hills and bumps jutting out, trees and rocks-it would have to be twisted so as to meet the ground. I'll talk to the old man and see what his take is. I did rig up an old puppy pen from my breeding days (those buggers open, and thank goodness they were big puppies-I bought the HUGE one. It's 4 feet tall and 16 across, so one side of the property, where they would access the front is closed. Now, the other side of the house is open, but for now, the wheelbarrow is keeping them away-they're terrified of it. I'd need a gate of about 300+feet to close that off. Do they make dog playpens that big?
I guess I should have stated the demensions.......5feet x 8 feet....manageable

I did build it myself...got the plans online.....just put "PVC chicken tractor" in the google search and it will probably come up....If not...I'll find it and send it.....The girls can't wait to get out into it. I have some pokey little chickens but used a walking stick to "guide" them in....only doing this just this week and it seems to be working out OK going back into the coop is not a problem.. LOL

The other 3 girls are all very sweet, I don't think there is a next in line!

So, today I'm going to put her in her "Time out" pen. I hope this works, or we'll have to get her a Hannibal Lector face shield...

Morning all,

Suzanne is your little frizzle showing any signs of a comb yet? Mine has the tiniest of one.she is so cute.she better be a she.

If anyone needs to rehome any monsters, I have a "tailgate" sales cage at Sussex.
Unlimited room (I think) as long as I bring my own cages.
Bring them by and throw it in, no problem for you guys.

Hi Ladies. Hope everyone is ready for what looks to be a beautiful weekend. I had a neighbor today whom I offered eggs to, she asked my husband if they are safe to eat. I really was amused and wish for once my husband hadn't restrained himself from his normal smart comments. I hope she enjoys them though. We brought home four new girls today (TY Heather) and they have already started making themselves home. One had the kindness of laying an egg already. I had read so much about moves causing hens to quit laying so I was in such shock when she just dropped an egg in the middle of nowhere. I had just been petting her and sat her down. Anyways tomorrow we have a lot of yard work to catch up on. My girls are really curious about the new girls and during yard time they had to stand at the fence to look at the 'new' kids. We will keep them apart for at least a few weeks.

Anyone need a heat lamp? Heather was kind enough to give it to me, but if someone is in need of it I will bring it over to the Sussex Fair.

Sounds like your neighbor is just inexperienced with where eggs actually come from. I have a few around here too. I'm related to a few on top of that.

Looks like Heather gave you some very sweet and well adjusted girls. Congratulations!

I'm in Centereach and I think a meet up is a great idea! I only have virtual chickens so far. Trying to overcome family objections and financial constraints. I think meeting actual chicken people (you know I only mean that in the best possible way) would help me in my efforts!
