Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I like that math a lot and was already planning on it...lol. I have an advantage that the guy behind me has about 9 that I have counted and the house next to me is currently not lived in. The way I see it is that if my beagle hasn't caused calls to the town with that wretched noise that exits his throat then my chickens shouldn't either. I would like to add a buff Orpington and an Araucana (or however you spell it), not to mention several others, but those are my next must haves.
Hope everyone had a nice day...rain coming tomorrow. Can't say I'm too upset, lawn and garden needs the drink.
Ur beagle will be your demise ......sorry.

The worst "neighbor annoyer "in the entire world in suburbia. Worse than a rooster.
Luck to ya!

I got mine from GQF (https://www.gqfmfg.com/store/comersus_listItems.asp?idCategory=44&orderBy=sku) and hatched 30/36 that were shipped during a freeze. Mine were the bobwhites though, not sure if it matters. They were packed really, really, well. Only 1 cracked, 34 went into lockdown, 1 pipped on the wrong end, 2 were clear.
OK, I hatched out 7 out of 8 eggs today shipped from L.I.
I am thrilled!

Hoping the 4 set under a buddy's broody (mine couldn't cover all 12 shipped) do as well in 3 days or so as they were set later.

Bottom line is it took only 24 hours from drop off to delivery time of 1-2 day old eggs to reach me from WAY out ion L.I. and we are "smoking" here.
Jeanette, your silkie girls want to be mommy helpers. Way too funny.

I am back in my groove thank goodness. Shipping from afar had me feeling anxiety attacks anymore the past few years.

Good breeder, good packing, good broody mommas and VERY fresh eggs makes a ton of difference in your hatch rate..

Do not forget that.

YEE HAW!! says the little red hen.

I'm glad to hear it. I don't think the type of quail matter-all the eggs are tiny and more fragile than chicken eggs. Maybe I'll take the chance and get them, and hopefully have some luck-it's only 16 days for coturnix...

I'm so anxious to try quail eggs, with all the nutrients! (and Coturnix mature in 6-7 weeks,,,weird, huh?)
Call me nuts, I tried again and again and dislike the taste of quail eggs. Just being honest. I pickled them even......and tried to like them, honest. They taste
"gamey" to me. Too much "flavor" if you ask.
Just didn't like them one bit. Buts that's just me!
Sell the eggs to Japanese restaurants, they love them I understand. A delicacy............

If you guys happen to see Caleb at the show give him a happy birthday hug for me .
I feel sad not being able to talk to him. I really think he needs his chicken moms.

Congrats Mags. I really wish I had a broody .

Suzanne, how's your frizzle? Mine hasn't grown an inch. It's still the size of one of those fuzzy hamsters. If it turns out to be a roo I don't think you would hear it 3 feet away.

JerseyHen, I'm sending you good thoughts today. May your condition improve, and you and your doc get a really good handle on your health. Here's sending you wellness vibes and wishing for steady improvements for you!
