Jeannie is her name. She shows her aruacanas at Sussex and has done well in the past. She's been to my house a few times.

She sells eggs on eBay occasionally. And raw wool.

Not often tufted hens though.
She is user tootsie on byc or ebay, I can't remember which one.

Just checked Craigslist and someone has 8 rhode island reds, 4 weeks old for free. They are in Centereach. Ad was put on May 4 and there is a phone #.

My friendly little Barbu D'anvers have hatched! Still damp and warming under the heating element in the incubator, they are already trying to connect with me.

I'm amazed... they're so very dear, so inexpressibly sweet! No wonder people fall for this breed. I'm in love!

Thank you, Mags! I only took each baby chick out of the incubator to hold tenderly for about 1 second, and they nestled into my hand for the warmth. Perhaps they also felt the flow of Reiki, and my love for them as I met each one "in person." Such tiny eyes looking up at me, each warm little fluffball on baby dino-taloned feet still trembly and unsure. They were so CALM, and snuggled into my hand as I tried to set each back down on their feet in the warm bator on the paper towels for traction. I just wanted to quickly emotionally connect with each, welcome them to the world, and make them each feel loved. They'll stay warm in the bator now until tonight when my fiance comes home and we can briefly snap a few quick photos of the little dears.

Sorry to ramble, all. I'm just really excited!

Ahhhh......the bonding experience. Your now their momma. They will need you to "speak" chickie to them. lol I use my hand and a short tuck..... tuck..... voice to show them food and water. When ever they then hear me making that sound they come running and watch my hand to show them what to eat. Teach them to eat from your hand now and they always will.
Joy in it's purist form...........that's what they give me. I'm happy to see someone else experience it.....and express it so well. Don't be afraid to give them water now. Mine drink the first day. Just a shallow bottle cap works well at first. Toss in some marbles or clean stones to keep them out of deep water.

Mags, your words are like gold to me. Thank you for sharing your methods with me! You have such a heart for your new baby chicks, I can tell. I'm going to use your "tuck, tuck" and tap at the water dish. It's a made-for-bantam-chicks dish my fiance found at Agway. Each baby has learned to eat the starter crumbles scattered across the paper towels, but so far, I've seen just one learn to drink yet. This afternoon, I'll hold them each again briefly, just to acknowledge each one's spirit again.

This year, Sussex is a one day show.
Last year it was a big Jersey Giant event so they made it 2 days.
I will be there, but am leaving early as I have a 4 hour drive to see Motley Crue at Mohegan Sun

Can't even think what my car will smell like on Sunday morning.

The Ohio National is in Oct/ Nov?
Not burning it into my brain yet as it will be quite a drive.
