Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hello everyone. Happy Belated Mothers day to all. What a productive weekend. Got my coop started finally, and harvested some beautiful greens out of my garden, Got my first batch of fresh strawberries, arugula, mesclin and spinach. for a nice healthy salad. The arugula is growing like crazy. Is it better to keep cutting it or just let it keep growing and only cut what I need?
I could use some arugula advice myself. Last summer I just picked off leaves but it got very straggly using that method. I wonder of cutting it back makes it come back producing more?

Now my kale I just take bottom leaves off as I need them.....and they simply keep growing taller with bigger leaves till frost. Love how hardy it is.

Mags-- I shall hug them an' squeeze them an' call them George!

Hey ho! I cannot wait to see you all onthe 18th. Which means there will be a freak tornado or something that day. Roberta I found a brand new unopened bottle of Wazine so it will be a fair trade for the pullet. How old is she, btw? Also I have a cat carrier but no water dishes. If anyone has an extra one I'd appreciate it. Life is way busy with packing and cleaning. Sorry I wasn't online more but I hope everyone feels better soon.

Much love,
Heather

I have been insane hatching chicks all winter long.
I swear I am ready to throw out all of the incubators, the chick dust is so thick.
Maybe I can get the maid to vacuum it up? HA!!!
I don't have exact hatch dates, I just grabbed eggs and kept throwing them in. I *think* the youngest are February?
So figure between 3-6 months, give or take....
Yes, I have straight Seramas, also.
But they are all black. Or black and gold. Or black and silver. Or black and whatever....
Black.

Oh....
I am going to Mohegan Sun for the Motley Crue concert Saturday night.
I don't care if my bird wins best in show, I am LEAVING EARLY.
3 1/2 hours to get there, I hope there's no bad traffic.
So I hope to be GONE by 3 pm.
Hope....

An amateur question for you ......

Are papaya, cantaloupe, honeydew seeds, etc....harmful........???? I always scoop them out just in case.....my girls LOVE papaya and COSTCO has them...so easy to provide.
Sounds like a silly question since I assume that they would eat them free range ......just wanted to make sure

I cut the tiny tender leaves of arugula .you can't let it get too big then it will get tough. You can also space plantings every several weeks and have it all summer long.

Something is already attacking my mustard plants.
I also had an outrageous salad last night from my garden. Kale, arugula ,spinach, several types of lettuce. By the time I get home from Boston/ Brimfield my garden will be crazy with Richard as the gate keeper.

I'm going to miss everyone at the show.Group hug from me. Everyone be careful driving and have a great time.

Roberta are you taking the ferry back Sunday?
I'll be on the ferry mid-day. Enjoy the concert .be careful driving.

The girls are paying their own way lately. Lorreta has been selling their eggs for them. Their food and straw fund. They could even be putting some aside for college if my husband wasn't giving eggs away at work.

Carolyn252, haven't heard how the new girls are doing.
I hope there is peace in the chick arena...

Yes, probably ferry, but not sure which one.

New London, as there is another show in Rhode Island on Sunday.
Not showing, but to see my peeps.
Depends on how much money I lose at Mohegan.... may have to drive around if I am in the red.
