Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Carolyn252, haven't heard how the new girls are doing.
I hope there is peace in the chick arena...

Yes, probably ferry, but not sure which one.

New London, as there is another show in Rhode Island on Sunday.
Not showing, but to see my peeps.
Depends on how much money I lose at Mohegan.... may have to drive around if I am in the red.

Well, funny you should ask... Today is the first day that I allowed physical contact between the two "flocks." I let the two new girls, Rumpy and Smoke, out of their fenced area and let them wander freely within the ChickArena. I brought a low garden seat in and sat there handfeeding them sunflower seeds and dried mealworms. Soon enough, Rumpy hopped up onto my lap to get some more. After about ten minutes of sitting in there with them, I allowed HennyPenny, my Black Marans, into the ChickArena. I stayed very close to them, and saw Rumpy walk by, and even brush up against, HennyPenny, and there was no fuss, no bother. HennyPenny didn't mind at all and they acted like they were neutral parties. Smoke was busy dustbathing and didn't get involved. After ten minutes of parallel play, I shooed HennyPenny outdoors, and picked up the two new girls and put them back inside their fenced area. So... first encounter went wonderfully well. I shall do more of that tomorrow.

Everyone is laying very well; and the new girls' blue eggs are making me SO happy. And, by the way, remember that big blue "torpedo" egg that you brought to me? I cracked it into a pan for my lunch yesterday. It had THREE yolks!

Keeping chickens is Life Enrichment 101 !!

OK, I hatched out 7 out of 8 eggs today shipped from L.I.
I am thrilled!

Hoping the 4 set under a buddy's broody (mine couldn't cover all 12 shipped) do as well in 3 days or so as they were set later.

Bottom line is it took only 24 hours from drop off to delivery time of 1-2 day old eggs to reach me from  WAY out ion L.I.  and we are "smoking" here.
Jeanette, your silkie  girls want to be mommy helpers. Way too funny.:clap

I am back in my groove thank goodness. Shipping from afar had me feeling anxiety attacks anymore the past few years.

Good breeder, good packing, good broody mommas and VERY fresh eggs makes a ton of difference in your hatch rate.. :thumbsup   Do not forget that.

YEE HAW!! says the little red hen.

Sorry for no reply to quote. Using phone to get BYC. We are in Steubenville Ohio for the day. Birth place of Dean Martin. Heading for Indiana car show in the morning. Maggie how are the SFH? They look so cute.

Holy moley! 3 yolks is insane!
So glad you're happy

OK , so I just left the Tractor supply up here Sturbridge MA and the little turkey poults didn't follow me back to the hotel room. Aren't you guys proud of me? If I wasn't heading to Boston after this and 19 kids at home( or is it 5 ) I think they would have jumped in the car. Oh my are they cute.

I forgot to tell everyone what I got for mothers day; the Diseases of Poultry reference text. And other woman ask for flowers . A little light reading...haven't had a second to thumb through it and check it out yet. I told Richard he isn't allowed to bring it to the practice

queenchick, that's quite the Mother's Day gift! I love it! Good for you! :) Yes, those turkey poults are too adorable. Talk about impressive restraint on your part!
