Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I have my silkies and Sweet Brown in the house-they were in an inch of water yesterday afternoon and I couldn't imagine what overnight would have brought them so they are in a dog crate in my living room. My cat thinks it's "Kitty tv". Can't wait until the roo starts crowing. Kairi will be freaked out.

The big girls are fine, dry and irritated that I didn't allow them to free range yesterday. They'll have to wait this morning until I've had a respectable amount of coffee and I've gotten myself together. Sleeping wasn't good last night. Too much rain hitting the skylights then the power kept blinking and my nook kept turning on and off. (It makes a piano sound when the power in disconnected so I was listening to piano...silence back to sleep...piano...silence back to sleep. Crazy. )

Oh, Rosie! You're getting serenaded each morning, right in your livingroom!

My goodness, your girls are getting good treatment there in their lovely indoor accomodations. What a rainstorm we had!

Is anyone else going on The North Fork Hen House Tour?

I'm so curious to see different coop and run set-ups, and looking forward to seeing different breeds, and seeing people happy with their hens! I hope for good weather!

My coop really runneth over!

Everyone was inside, perching high up when I realized Rhonda (EE) was missing. I had waded out in knee-deep water to check on the girls. Rhonda was up under the table in the screen house. The water had come up and she sought a perch. I had to carry her to the relative safety of the coop. The water did come in under the door, but not too far in. I'll have to clean everything out when it dries up.

That's some SERIOUS flooding! Wow! Glad everyone was fine. When I left for work it was rather dry. The girls were out but I assumed they would make their way into the coop when the monsoon hit. They didn't. I came home for lunch to find them huddled in the corner of the patio, warbling pitifully. They didn't even cluck when I picked them up to move them to the coop. So much for bragging on their superior intelligence! ;p

Man-o-man, Suzanne my coop and run didn't get that bad.
My little bantam decided to fly over the fence and into the front yard then thought better of it boy was she panicked trying to get back.
She gets her feathers clipped tomorrow

Today I let everyone out to free range. Pauline stayed close to the coop and the big girls ignored her. The little girls went into visit with her a few times but everything was peaceful. Bobby and I went out for a while and when we got back I immediately went to check on Pauline. I found her in the coop on her side all hunched up in a ball - wait for it...wait for it - DUST BATHING!! Perfectly safe and contented. Yay!
