And now here's the latest update. Pauline went into the coop with the other girls and tried to snuggle up with the Jersey girls. They were having none of it. They chased her off the shelf. Meanwhile, all the big girls got into position on their shelf/roost. Poor Pauline didn't know what to do. She looked at her pen and ran away from it. She kept trying to figure out how to get up the gangway and then cross to the Jersey side, but the big meanies wouldn't let her. I finally put her on the shelf with the Jersey girls, but off to the side. Everyone was falling asleep so there was no complaining. I'm going out to check on them to see where Pauline finally settled. Ack.

So, I woke up with a start this morning-I SWORE I heard a rooster crowing (Heaven help me-this bird will be the death of me!) of course at 4:30am, it's still quite dark outside, and there was no rooster or anything else moving but ME! Of course Missy heard me jump up, so she got up, figuring she was getting walked and fed-and started nudging me with the cold nose and tongue and dog breath.

Today I have a rescheduled baseball game with my team, and the annual little League picnic. I've already warned my kids-if they're not the first people at the dunk tank-they're not doing it-you should see the nasties floating in there! I will be approaching the board today (they tend to mill about and try to avoid mingling with the little people but I'll grab hold of them!) and discuss the tick situation. At the very least they need guineas on the fields to de-tick the place, if they don't want to spray.

So what's everyone's plans for this pretty Sunday?

Well, my chicken hat went over like a lead balloon as they say.i don't think it will ever go on that babies head. Oh well on to the next project.

Good morning! I just signed up on this site yesterday and found this thread today. I live in Deer Park. It's nice to see so many other Long Islanders! Just got my first chickens less than a week ago.
