Missing my girls. My coop seems so empty :(
My silkie/EE joined me for dinner last night. She had her own little plate with turkey, sweet potatoes, broccoli, &cranberries. Boy was she happy. I think I might be cracking up, letting my chick eat at the table. Oh well.

Hi Everyone! I haven't disappeared from the face of the earth. Just been really busy with my numerous part time jobs. And marriage, etc.

I rehomed a couple of birds, so I'm (down?) to 11. Both my bantams are laying, and Aretha and Rhonda have survived a really tough molt.

I almost lost Shirley. Not sure what was wrong with her. She was hunched over, and having a hard time walking. I went online to try to figure it out but all I could do was give her electrolytes and extra calcium. I kept her in the house (chicken hospice) and after a few days she turned the corner and is now back in the flock.

I'm not getting a lot of eggs right now, but I decided not to put on the light in the coop. I figure the girls have earned a rest.

I haven't gone back and read past posts. I hope everyone is well. I've been keeping up with Heather on fb. She seems to be doing well and adapting to life in Texas. Of course she's got new chickens!

Glad to hear you're OK. I was getting a little worried.im not getting many eggs either. Several of my girls have just finished heavy molts also. Such is chicken life. Don't be a stranger.

Suzanne, it's good to see (read) you!

Diva just had an unbelievable molt, She barely looked like a chicken! But she's re-feathered nicely, but not laying yet, and with daylight waning, I guess it may be spring before I have any more blue eggs.

I've decided to put a lamp in the coop, on a timer. They'll get a few more hours of light, and warmth. I'm feeling the cold this year, so, the girls need to have warmth too.I'm figuring on two fixtures-one for light, and when that turns off an infrared during the night. Hopefully the old man can have this up and running soon...or I may need to take matters into my own hands!

My other girls have still been laying reliably, I get 3-4 eggs a day, from alternating girls, which isn't bad considering.

It's been so busy around here, I barely have a chance to do anything. Trying to promote my business (Pink Zebra-scented products) and driving my kids around to various sports and jobs...PLUS joining the local volly's...Makes for being a tired girl.

See y'all soon! Let me know when we can all get together for a lunch or something! A break with the chicken chicks would be welcome!

So, This morning, I saw an ad on Craigslist for 6 young chickens-4 months old.

Yep-they now live here. 2 BR's (June and July) 2 EE's (No name yet) and 2 BJG's (No names yet)

I'll take pictures-the EE's are truly gorgeous coloring.

Crazy, Crazy woman... Glad you're back

Thanks! So the new girls are settled in for the night in a huge crate, away from my older girls. They are on pellets, which I had on the deck, and my big girls were trying like crazy to get into the tupperware.

I call the older girls the big girls, but honestly, I've never had a BJG, and these girls are HUMONGOUS and really sweet. They also talk even more than May, who is my very talkative BR. the new girls are eating from my hands already and I'm very quickly falling in love. It's clear they were really loved and cared for.

It's been an exhausting day and tomorrow doesn't look to be any less busy. I look forward to monday!
