Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Aww, c'mon...The more, the merrier! Besides, how many people do you know that want "just a few"... I've got the room, just want to spread the fun!!

Every time I walk into a room, the conversation stops....Anyone know of any chicken-events going on down here? I received premium lists for twin tiers, and Rochester, but they are just SO FAR away. Will be at Sussex co, and maybe Delmarva this fall. The closest fair is at Old Bethpage village restoration I have a black japanese bantam, some black copper marans, a welsummer, and some silkies I would like to show. Also hatched some thai gamefowl, don't know what class?? Maybe asil in aosb? Hope everyone has a good weekend, now that the weather has given us a break! Roberta

Roberta,
So what peeps did you get from my pet chicken? Fancy....rare...inquiring minds wanna know!

I have NO IDEA. There's some black ones, some white ones....I feel like such a dummy. My brain is too full to research this out. There is for sure... 1 brown leghorn, 1 ancona, 1 EE, I'm sure a bunch of RIR, barred plymouth rocks, australorp. I thought this would be fun, but they didn't list what they shipped. NO, they want me to guess. I know what I have already gotten in the past, but these new ones, will just have to wait for them to grow up to figure out. Or adopt out. Cute bunch, and they are running around with the ones I hatched out, so there's birds EVERYWHERE. Chicken math.....They sent a polish, died 1st nite. Always the ones you really would like drop dead. I ordered a special from Ideal years ago, they listed each breed on the receipt. NOT MPC. And since they deal with more than one supplier, it's a guessing game. I dunno, there's a story with eggs I ordered from them earlier this spring....came from a different place....I'm not sure I will continue to buy stock from them again. Too willy-nilly. But I got babies.
I think I am done with babies for the year. Just hatched out 2 peafowl. They are wearing me out!! Not like a chicken... too clingy! Yes, I say that now! I had better hide the incubator, or finish that big cabinet bator I started building. Holds 210 eggs. Now I can really get in a heap of trouble when I'm done with that!!!
Just got the book this morning, started reading, haven't got to the chicken part yet. Good so far!

I don't envy you the guessing game on the peeps.LOL Because numbers count now for me I want to know exactly what I am getting into anymore. Have had to rehome too many roos sadly. I do love roos. I do dearly love incubating my own peeps as well.

I moved into this wonderful old dream house of mine just last thaksgiving weekend. Had gioven up all; but 2 opf my flopck npt kmnopwing of where I bought would houise a flock safely or comfortably. Well it turned out OK thank goodness.

By Jan 1 2011 I had 3 bators going strong and plenty mad DH and 2 grown sons not pleased with me.

Well come Jan 22 I have 100 eggies either going to hatch or not. About 55 did and that is a low count for me, but this house isn't really stable with temps like my old basement was. I have had 100% hatches on shipped eggs in the old place I lived in before miraculously enough. Basements are the best places to set a bator up. The barometer doesn't jump up and down so much anmd no drafts or sudden temp swings.
they are super quiet to.But Sunday I take on some juveniles for a friend to rehome them ho[efully. That will be fun! Maybe I can Ninja another into my coop undetected.
I have my 4 hens now and get 4 eggs most days. But I am always wheeling & dealing chickens in 1 way or another.

Throw some pics up here...we can guess what they are!

Don't know how to post pics yet (HAH) will learn soon. I actually got out the camera & new flash card and took some shots today. Very cloudy, flash kept going, they look crappy. I have a sq silkie (I hope) that is to die for, took some of her and my new thai gamefowl today. And my marans, trying to decide whether to keep the roos or give to my little friend to eat them. I HATE to do it, but unfortunately, nobody else wants them. The thread on marans is kind of, well, I'm afraid to join in. Alot of attitudes there. I think I will stick with the welsummers for those gorgeous eggs! You're welcome to some babies, they are about 6 wks old from the mpc bunch, all the way up to 5 months for some silkies I may adopt out.
How old is the house? I don't know if you were watching on e-bay a few months back, somebody had a brower brooder with a home made stack of brooders, and a boatload of extras. I got it!!He was in Staten Island, drove just over the bridge, and it all just barely fit into my pickup. Now I can't park my car in the garage anymore.... And I haven't used any of it... Have to disinfect it all, and don't know what I'm waiting for. Maybe the fact I could probably fit about 400 chicks in it?? Trying to overcome the temptation to fill it up. Hmmm....
Was yours the house in the video? His was very similar.
OK gotta go, today is our 27th anniversary (whew!) spend some quality time with hubby, he just had hernia surgery Weds. This getting old sucks! Roberta

I hope everyone is working hard to protect our babies- and OURSELVES! We have spent DAYS getting everything in the yard secured. Flower pots, bird feeders, welcome signs, ANYTHING will become a missile with the right wind behind it! I cannot believe the amount of crap I have in my yard! Good luck to all, and hopefully no one suffers any losses this weekend. Roberta

I am a bit nervoius in this new/old hoise we are now in. I am 1 1/2 blocks from the evacuation zone. Hubby is home, generator is set and water/fridge full. That they emptied our 2 close to shore hpspitals speaks volumes to me. Never have they done that before.

I don't think you have to worry, we New Yorkers are smart. The hospital evac was probably just to avoid lawsuits. Better to do it now than later. Are you ready to ride it out? I can't believe all the stores are out of milk, bread, water, bananas. Is that all we eat in a storm? I'm planning to bring all my babies into the house if it gets too bad. Hoarding cardboard boxes. I may need them for housing/broken windows/??. Make sure you got all you need. Batteries, candles, bbq gas/charcoal, ice, duct tape....My head hurts!

Yupper, we're all set to ride it it. I cooked all day yesterday so prepared foods are ready to eat......ice is stored and water buckets full.
Stay safe peoples.
