I have a lot of overhanging branches, which I thought would help muddy the waters a little bit. But Bobby said when the hawk took the dove, it perched on one of the branches. Arrrggh.

This whole hawk thing is taking away from the first egg watch!

I've got it! I'll put my insurance agent in the yard to scare away the hawks...

I saw one Red Tailed Hawk gliding over the house the other day and he did not even slow down. He kept on searching till he was out of sight. The covered run must work.

Ive heard that the fine black netting is a good choice, but if they free range when you are not there you will have to cover a lot of area. Might be a good idea to make a fenced in area with some netting and use the paddock rotation principle so they don't tear up the ground in one spot.

Looked out my back window just a few minutes ago and saw a sharp shinned or coopers hawk eating something in my yard. Wasn't sure if it was a chicken or not, but whatever it was, it was already dead so I wasn't sure if I should go bother it. The pile of feathers looked a little too large for my liking so I decided to go out with my smaller doggies and let them chase it away. Whew! Turned out to be a pigeon. When the dogs scared it, it tried picking up it's meal but dropped it. Now I'm wondering if I should leave the carcass there for him to come back and finish or do what I can to deter him from coming back in the future and get rid of it?

Any suggestions?

Good point, I'll leave the body there until tomorrow, after that it's going to go in the trash. I wouldn't want the dogs getting into it. Yuck!

I kept the girls in today. Gladys spent the day munching on snacks and checking out the nesting box.

I think I'm going to start sprinkling scratch in the front yard for the doves and squirrels. Maybe we can relocate the buffet...

The hawk came back and finished it's meal, all that was left was a pile of feathers, some innards and it's head. Yuck!

I had one hawk, so crafty, it wedged my poor babies leg in between the fence pickets, and had a hands free meal.
You always look on the groung for the yuck, and there it was, right in front of my face! I hate those things!

If a hawk were to get one of my hens, for sure I might be angry but really I love all birds.
