Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

George is doing real well. He hasn't had any major battles, he is a little shy, some mornings he stays in the coop a little later than most.
He hasn't found his "place" yet, but I can't blame him, being thrown into my catastrophy.
I have a few different level perches in the little coop, he has graduated to the middle height already.
I am against the artificial lighting, I don't want to throw off their clock, or stress out their bodies by expecting more eggs.
They deserve a winter break.
Until you run out of eggs, and have to run to the store

Sounds like Congress.

I found my girls were not going in the coop as easily without the lights. The lights go on at 5 and out at 8.

Tonight I made a couple of quiches with Gladys's eggs. It hurt to use 6 eggs, but boy did it look YELLOW! Can't wait to serve it up. So proud of my girl.

Ya wanna borrow a few chickens for the living room?
It may not scare them away this year if the food is good, but definately will keep them from coming again next year.

Or you could mention bedbugs.....

I have always felt the same way about artificial lighting. They do deserve a break. As for buying eggs at the store.... We had to buy our first dozen store eggs, wow that hurt. We haven't done that in over 2 years. But like I posted earlier, we have a neighbor that helped us with their eggs this week. Nice to have great neighbors.

Yupper.....bought me some egglands best cage free big brown eggs. My ladies should be ashamed of themselves...........

That and having had strep throat this week I am totally behind. Not a cookie made....breads....anything. All I want to do is sleep.
