Gunnarwordon, glad to hear they are drinking now and doing well. This has been a rough week for the babies.

Sanitation/biosecurity is very important. We have a friend of ours who many years ago had worked in a hatchery that supplied chicken farms, and they were very biosecurity conscious. One story that sounds sad but was necessary was that when a class from school would visit the hatchery they would let them play with some chicks. After the children left, the chicks were thrown into the chute. They could not reintegrate them into the brood because of the risk of infectious outbreak. It is really serious stuff.

Good morning all; I need some help. My friends rooster has a ripped comb along the feather line and into the skin. Can't get close enough to see how bad it is. Seems to have stopped bleeding for now. What should we do???Thanks Carol

Carol, how much of it is ripped? Some breeds of game have the combs actually cut off, so as long as it isn't flopping around, it just may heal on its own.
If it is one of those big floppy ones, I might try to tape it so it won't move. However, he may move around more to get the tape off than he would without it.
Just load up on the blood stop powder, and watch it.
Good luck!

Oh, and you may just have to wait until night so it is easier to catch him.
It isn't easy or fun trying to catch an angry rooster during the daytime.

Thanks for the advice He is a rather aggressive mean bird, so no one is getting any where near him til night fall. I told her to wait til then and possibly put some neosporin on it . What do you think.? I gave her 4 beautiful girls a month ago so I think she should take one of my gentle young boys. Hopefully Ralph will be OK
