Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Somehow I can't bring myself to buy a used outhouse, and repurpose it to a coop.....

I think the chiropractor bill to load that thing would cancel out the money saved.
Sorry, Donna

Rich, thanks for the input. I'm looking for a new coop to accommodate more chickens, and I want to make sure if I'm spending big bucks there will be plenty of room. I was trying to figure out how I'd pay someone on craigslist for something like this.

I think I'm going to stick with the one on chickensforbackyards. I had a good week tutoring, so the $$ doesn't hurt so much.

My friend's husband is building his coop and heading out east to pick up some chicks this weekend. She's not into the whole chicken thing, and I think I'm not her favorite person right now for getting him hooked.

I knew I was getting bantams and the intended flock size was 3-6 so we got a commercial rabbit hutch for them - one of the two story ones. It works great for the intended flock size, but when the chicks came last year they packed roos with them for warmth... So my 10 un-sexed bantams came with 8 extra roos.. AND I had only one death before I moved them outside. Talk about crowding! 17 birds all which insisted on packing into the top floor - even when I covered the whole coop.

Suzanne, I built both of our coops. If you lived in my area I would gladly assist in building you one. But Huntington is way to far to travel. Sorry. Dont you know any one who has carpentry skills that will lend you a hand? Maybe your husbands friend could help. You supply all materials and ask him how much he would charge you. Just a thought.
