Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

My new hatch date is May 29th.
Long wait but at least I know there won't be a snow storm.
I could get it sooner but I'd have to pick different chickens then those I lost so I will wait.

The Orps aren't laying yet, silly!
But I can put some more "other" eggs in, and have them done on the 11th
Even some Silkies!

I know, silly. I thought you might have other LavOrp eggs lying around! What "others" are we talking about? I'm not really a Silkie girl. But I DO love those chocolate brown eggs.

Do you know that Greenfire Farms is getting $100 for chocolate orpingtons? and $200 for jubilee orpingtons. Perhaps we should start breeding those! I'd be willing to import them from England. I'm due for another trip across the pond.
Bobby agreed to build the coop. And after only one martini!

Gonna investigate some plans. (I had such a hard week and looked so pathetic at dinner, I think he caved out of sympathy. Nothing like the tear-filled baby blues...)

Artmamasays, That is allot of chickens in a small coop. To bad they put that many roos in there. Good luck finding homes for them.

Thankfully that is all ancient history now! My girls are a few days over a year old and I don't think I'll be adding to the flock this spring. It was crazy. Funny thing that came out of it - My son had a high school graduation gathering and taught all of his friends how to hypnotize the full size roos!

I know how you feel. I just got my new ship date and now I have 6 more in the shopping cart waiting for me to buy them. :D

What's a BR ?

I was looking at greenfire farms too! The jubilee orps and the cream legbars. Lol.
But not spending that kinda money on day olds with my track record. :(

You buy them, I will hatch them.....
Just remember, shipped eggs only have around 50% hatch rate if you're lucky.
So you buy twice as many.......

BR is a Barred Rock, those are what George just hatched out.

Oh, George......any more babies?

Jeez, I gotta get that BIG incubator finished

I saw Greenfires prices

another reason to keep all the Orps and start breeding them

I bought a little crapbox incubator on e-bay, will see if it works, maybe will start a package with eggs...................

As far as egg layers go, based on the ones I have, Barred Rocks are the best. Beautiful dark brown, huge eggs. Very consistent, and great looking birds. What's black and white and red all over?? Wanda!

And such cute babies, too...

I confess. I was up until 2 am looking at chicken coop designs.

Then I started fantasizing about hatching a couple of eggs right here so I could take a couple of chicks from egg to laying eggs. I have a serious problem...
