Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Ok so no sweating worming the hens just now. I cleaned up some droppings and looked at them but didn't see anything to be afraid of. It's not really worth spending the time and $ at the vet to worm them. Just praying the puppy doesnt eat the poo.
Hope you're having fun at the beach! Can't wait to meet you guys and pick up my chicks. Anyone have a chart for all the breeds we're getting with pics?

I like the chickensforbackyards.com site. They have a chart that's easy to read. I printed out pictures of all the breeds so I can tell them apart.

Got my hovabator all plugged in. The temperature has been a constant 100 degrees. I finally decided to order the lav orp eggs. They're on their way. Since I've had experience with hatching ducks, I figured I'd be good to go with the chickens. So excited.

BABY CHICKS!! YAY!!!

Good morning everyone; Wish I was on vacation as I'm sure all of us do. About the worm thing.Your Chickens can have worms and you not know it or see them in their poop. They can shed eggs and you not know it. You have to be careful with your pup He will more than likely eat it.You not only have to just worry about worms if he does; Salmonella for one. I'm a retired microbiologist; my expertise is (was) in Veterinary medicine. I have wormed my original three .They were "junk" yard hens from a chicken farm with mites etc. You can read ten different articles and get ten different answers to the worming debate definitely not a black and white discussion.

Have a great vacation; and don't forget the sunscreen.

Interesting.... I was just outside putting Wazine in everyones water, I come inside, and the discussion is worms!
First time in 10 years I am worming (de-worming), I just figured it was time.

Hey, Roberta! Love your avatar! (whoa, too early for exclamation points. I think I hurt myself.)

Roberta, now that confuses everything. Ten years and you start worming now? What made you do it now? When I pass the chicken isle in TSC I pick up the Wazine, read it, then put it back. Now I'm gonna get it. Like the avatar too. Didn't know who it was at first. Been used to seeing the stock one.

I have a few that just don't look happy, every time you talk about it, the first question is "have you wormed them?"
So I figured it can't hurt.
I have alot of wild things running around, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, so I figured I would try it.

Yeah, I put in the avatar. It's spring, time for new things!

I guess it does make sense to worm them once in a while. I read that some people do it spring and fall as a normal matter of maintenance.

Yeah, I agree about throwing out the eggs. Gonna make sure there's enough in reserve before I do it.

It's gonna suck throwing out all those eggs!
At least the girls will get them for breakfast...

Now wait - what's Wazine? I'm out in the 'burbs, so no tractor supply near me. Do you think I can pick some up when I come to get the new chicks? Is there a TSC near you guys on the island? Also, if you feed them back the eggs, are you double-dosing them? Is that ok?

So many things I have yet to learn about birds in general.
