Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I know nothing that will help, but you certainly have your hands full. Hope your chick gets over whatever. And the worm thing...I guess if I had done the first dose, I would do the second because of the life cycle of the eggs...and dead voles...yikes, you would deserve a hug even if you could breathe! Hope you have energy to plant the garden, it should be warm. Do decongestants help you? Have a good day tomorrow. Let us know how your little chick does.

Wow, Heather, you've really got your hands full! I'm sorry to hear the little diva isn't doing well. Try the diseases and emergencies thread to see if someone can help you. Maybe Sav-A-Chick electrolytes?

We finished the interior of the coop and 90% of the run, so we put the girls in for the evening tonight. I lured them into the run with mealworms, then into the coop. I went out for a while and checked on them when I came home. Gladys and Aretha were sleeping in two of the nesting boxes, and one of the eggs I left in there to encourage laying seems to be missing (I hope they didn't eat it). But the other four girls were sleeping up on the roosting bar like they're supposed to. We'll keep them in there for the next few days to get them used to it. In the meantime, I'm hoping Bobby's friend will come by for the old coop to prevent confusion.

Thanks guys - I'll update you on the state of the chick tomorrow. Hoping she bounces back. I've been giving them medicated feed and nothing else so I hope it's not coccidiosis.

Here's to the rain they're predicting for the weekend - may it wash all the pollen with it! :)

I think molasses can cause diarrhea (at least I know I have been advised to use it to help them get things moving). If she/he is not eating you can try making a mash out of the chick crumbles and some warm water. If it was cocci she would probably have bloody poop (at least that is one of the major signs). I hope the wee one feels better soon (you too

My salmon fav "Charlie" (who we thought was a rooster) went broody yesterday so we placed 4 dark brahma eggs under her. At least we are pretty certain they are from our dark brahma hen "Lucy" (she lays a unique egg) and our dark brahma roos (we only have dark brahma roos). If I actually get chicks, I will let everyone know! I might put them up for adoption bc I have 6 in the brooder at the moment as well.

Charlie has been very dedicated so far, she makes the most terrifying noise when you get near her. It is funny though, the other hens force their way into her nest box to lay. Are they attempting to populate her nest without having to brood themselves? I marked the eggs we want to leave under her so I can remove the others each day.

Heather, maybe she's dehydrated? How about eyedroppers full of water with Sav-A-Chick? I was thinking about it during last night's bout of insomnia. Since she's not exposed to the other birds or to any foreign food, that's all I could think of.

I went to see my doctor yesterday because of difficulty sleeping. I get into bed, exhausted usually, and then my adrenaline starts pumping and I can't relax enough to fall asleep. When I do fall asleep, I wake up after a couple of hours and the whole thing starts all over again.

When I started telling her about the situation with my job, I started to cry. She told me it's anxiety and depression. She gave me a prescription for Xanax to catch me up on some sleep.

The funny part is, when I asked for a note to show I was there, the receptionist gave me a note saying I didn't have to go back to work until May 1st. Pretty tempting!

Can't hear the girls in their new coop. I know they're squawking, but we can't hear them. Which is sorta the point....

Right now, Bobby's got his ipad out and is brushing up on shingling a roof. Guess I know what he's got planned for the day!

Smk, When work gets crappy for me I do the same sleep thing. Usually my thought pattern turns to ,"and now I am awake. I am going to be so exhausted tomorrow". I try to think "well it is only 1AM(or 2 or 3 or whatever) and try to coerce myself that I am lucky to have several hours that I can lay in bed. Like Saturday morning when I was a kid. Sometimes it actually works. Good luck. Not sleeping because of wok really stinks. I totally empithetic.(spelling? spell check still not working)

That sucks. I am having anxiety now also. Work just cut my commission check $200. a month without telling me.
I confronted my boss, his answer was "I thought she did that a while ago"
I haven't had a raise in 7 (yes SEVEN) years, and now they cut me?
I gave them 2 weeks notice. My husband is furious that I didn't discuss it with him.
So maybe I'll drop dead at work, and THEN I can be happy.
UGH
I think I would rather work at McDonalds right now, I am so mad at everyone.

Gunnar, I have some Thai gamefowl, and have finally realized I need to get rid of them.
Will be bringing them to the show in CT, I have someone interested in them.
