Ouch! Glad you are OK. I almost hit a bear running across I-80 in my little VW. Very scary. And the look of everyones faces in the cars near me was priceless.

Ugh........glad your all safe.Saw that ya'll were posting about a bear....hope you get him out of your yard!!!!
A few nights ago we were on our way back from PA where I picked up a couple spinning wheels that I found on CL. It was a long drive.
When we got into NY, we were north of Port Jervis on Rt. 42, when we hit an adult bear. My car will be in the shop for a couple weeks, but we're ok.

How ya feeling Roberta? Better I hope.Ouch! Glad you are OK. I almost hit a bear running across I-80 in my little VW. Very scary. And the look of everyones faces in the cars near me was priceless.
Wow! You are lucky you didn't get hurt. I am right across the river from Port in Montague. We have sooooo many bears and deer. Generally we love all the wildlife, just not when they are so casual about human contact. The fox have been like that too and they usually are so shy. I suppose we will adapt and find a way to coexist somehow. I am considering electric fence though.Saw that ya'll were posting about a bear....hope you get him out of your yard!!!!

OOOOOH! New eggs to hatch! That's so much fun! I know your broodies will do a great job, and you'll have a plethora of babies! Here we go again......................16 new eggs just delivered intact. marans and olive eggers. Jeez.........Wish me LUCK !
I have already switched out 2 nests earlier today when my 3 broody girls got up for a snack......as I was unpacking the new eggs of course.Didn't get to add the 3rd. hens eggs but I put them in my already prepared bator so we are officially underway! I'll get them under her tomorrow when she gets up to eat at some point. 6 eggs divided between 3 hens ought to be fine.![]()
Today I bought a nice new SUPER LCD flash-lite at HD for candling. WOW.......it is GREAT!
I re-checked the removed/scrambled eggs from the nests to triple check myself before tossing them.....and see that I have 1 live and squiggly blrw making headway! and a very good chance that a bcm might go to hatch as well. I will check again cause it's so dark to see movement in those eggs. But I think that is it for the original 18 eggs I had set 2 weeks back. Stinkers.......the worst batch I ever tried to hatch. Some were ready to explode and black so early on that I wonder sometimes if they weren't the freshest of eggs.
Chicken math strikes again! I'll have to hand raise 2 peeps or try to ...uh...hmmmmm......I dunno.........I'm not supposed to have peeps inside the house anymore. I am in deep do-do.![]()
Add Chicken Chaos to our dictionary of poultry terms.
Yes, only 6 chickens! Isn't it amazing!? 16 +2 +3 = 6.OOOOOH! New eggs to hatch! That's so much fun! I know your broodies will do a great job, and you'll have a plethora of babies!![]()
That chicken math works like crazy though. So when the eggs hatch that will bring you to a grand total of 6 chickens, right?
So you did the keritin! Friends of mine swear by it. Here it costs $300.00 or more if they aren't running specials. I think I moight like to buy some cool wigs.be a different woman every nite for the DH. And no time consuming drying/straightening etc. and so on. Hmmmm.....doesn't one of the gabore sisters sell them?Sorry I've been somewhat MIA in the past couple of days-I had that Keratin treatment on my hair, and I can't wash it, put it up or MOVE much until tomorrow. I feel so out of sorts like this, it better be worth this misery. No more frizzies!!
Wow, bears are scary! I hope you get rid of him, they are so dangerous!! Now, if one is on your property, and poses a threat to your home, family and livestock, can you legally kill him?
My family had a bungalow up in Monroe, NY, my whole life. (I suppose my step-beast still has it...I wouldn't know) and we saw bears a few times, but not too often. Once I thought the neighbors got a Newfie. (I wear glasses) and I sat there telling my dad how cute that dog was. Yeah-it wasn't a dog.
Out here, we have LOADS of deer though. I have them in my yard, walking down the middle of the street, when they feel like it, and driving at night is just hazardous if you go fast. They're everywhere. Ticks are also everywhere. My dogs and kids are all treated but I still worry about Lyme. I'm hoping my chickens can help decrease the tick population somewhat.
When I was growing up, I remember seeing deer, and they were beautiful. Now their ears are covered with hundreds of ticks, it's just nasty.
