Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hi, Frank and I are born and raised Beaconites. Now we live in Greenwich in Washington County outside of Saratoga. It is farm country and chickens are everywhere. We got 15 chicks in April and we expect them to start laying in September. They are Rhode Island Red pullets. Our next door neighbors have chicken too, but they are in our yard more than their own. She put up a fence, but they jump right over a 5 foot fence. They follow my husband in a line as he is tilling the gardens. It is so funny to watch. One of the, Henrietta, follows my husband everywhere and even tugs at his pants for him to feed her. They were our inspiration to get our own chickens. When my husband whistles, ours come running. Thanks for the welcome.
Welcome, I went to Newburgh high school. My mom still lives there I left there as soon as possible....I have always wanted to go to Saratoga for a long weekend when the horses are running....Hold on tight and enjoy the ride with this crazy bunch of chicken lovers

You'll run into a problem if she isn't able to eat or drink enough, hopefully the other chickens will help her preen herself if she has a problem with that also.Keep a close eye on her in this weather we are going to have in the next few days...they are saying 100 on Sunday
Hey Guys, I gave Chipmunk the baby roo a bath and Tiana, and she has a pretty crossed beak:

Is this something to be concerned about? Will it correct itself?

Here's another angle:

Welcome! I'm in Poughkeepsie and am new to chickens this year. My son's friend from college lives in Balston Spa, near Saratoga. He is staying with us this summer in order to work with my disabled daughter. He is really liking our chicks and may be bringing some home to Saratoga!

may i ask where you live in Dutchess County...my husband and i want to move back down from upstate and are having a hard time figuring out where to go so we can bring our 15 Rhode Island Reds  they are my husbands"girls"

Sorry, I didn't see this post. I'm actually in Hyde Park not too far from Dutchess Community College, with a Po'k address. The areas surrounding us... Clinton Corners, Pleasant Valley, Rhinebeck, Red Hook and Millbrook are lovely. There used to be many farms in this area. Might be worth a visit to see you like this region. Tina

Blue Kote works wonders on mosquito bites!
The purple foot and rear end, not so great tho.
Why do they bite me in weird places??! Arg

My Farm CSA can't take my Roos cause the 2
they have now kill any new Roos. :(
Poor mr. Speckles.

Hi, all. Waiting for the Orthopaedist to open. DH broke his shoulder AGAIN.
Thinks he's gonna get better care NOT going to the ER.
This is the 3rd broken shoulder. Not to mention all the other bones.
He'll probably get another body cast.
And make me miserable because I have to wash his long hair.
Every day.
And the bone strengthing supplements give him kidney stones.
And he gives me crap because I might get hurt on my motorcycle.
But this is all on a bicycle. In the woods.
His friends were mad because he ruined the ride.
I'm SO AT THE END OF MY ROPE......
sigh.

Roberta, sorry to hear about your DH. A friend or ours has had similar problems with her DH and bicycles. He took a bad spill when someone jumped out of a driveway and he was going downhill. Was in the hospital and rehab for months. Couldn't wait to get measured for another custom built bike and hit the road again. Then more and more spills...

Get your bike cranked up. It'll make you feel good. Both of you hang in there.
