Hey girls! Montauk was glorious, and as hard as I tried to convince my husband to buy a house so we could move there tomorrow, he wouldn't do it. He so MEAN! the kids agreed with me. Then we figured we could cut some brush and hide the camper so the park wouldn't make us leave...the couple in the neighboring site agreed and we were all set then BAM! my husband put the kabosh on that idea too.

Well, we had a great time, lots of sun, every day at the beach, and old man and I spent one night in town having fun. I did desperately miss all my pets, so I was glad to come home I guess. I'm sure the girls, dogs and cat could adjust just fine to Montauk though.

Anyhow, when I got home Sunday my cousin texted me-my uncle, who has Parkinsons (has had it for about 25 years) is in ICU and he's in kidney failure. He's my mothers baby brother, and I have so few relatives that I got in my truck yesterday and drove to Brooklyn to see him and my family. Brooklyn heights. UGH. So far away! In the 95 degrees it was really uncomfortable, but I'm glad I went. My Aunt is a mess, my cousin, Danny is trying to hold it together, and my younger cousin (by 3 years) Roselle stayed home, hasn't been to the hospital, and when I called her she wouldn't even talk about it. She's setting herself up for a lifetime of regrets if she continues. Roselle is 42, never had a relationship outside of her family. She's odd, but my only girl relative.

Most of my Aunts family have flown in from Israel so they were there. It seems the ICU in Long Island College hospital (Downstate MC) has no rules, and we had 5-8 people in that tiny cubicle at one time.

I've been trying to contact my older cousin, Tedd, who lives in Mass, but so far he's not answering calls, texts, IM's or anything so my next move is to contact his daughters on facebook and make them call him. Ridiculous. There's only 4 of us cousins left (my other older cousin, Paul, passed away years ago) Tedd, Paul and myself are all only children, so we have a TINY family. It's sad when cousins lose touch. We used to be like close siblings.

Anyhow, that's where I'm at, just hoping for some good news this morning.

On the chicken front, the girls were happy to see me. they all ran over. Then again, it may have been the tub of mealies in my hands.

Hi Rosie,
Glad to hear your vacation was 5*****. I think you should move there too. Tell DH I said so.

That'll get you far.

On the other hand I send you out a big hug and hope for the best outcome for your family at this time. Family ties seem to get harder and harder to hold together as we grow up and people get busy with their lives. Often moving to far away places.
We seem to slowly but surely drift apart.

But events like weddings and funerals seem to always pull us back together as a reminder of "how we were" and hopefully refresh our relationships once again. I've learned if nothing else that turning a deaf ear to most things also works wonders as well at this ripe age I now am.

Hi Rosie! Welcome back!! Glad you had a great vacation.

In all my years as a family member (and as an Estate lawyer in another life) I've seen how family tragedy can affect people so differently. When my father died in 2004, my siblings and cousins and I all pulled much closer. On the other hand, my mother and I had a parting of the ways for a couple of years. It's all healed now, but it's amazing to see how different people handle things.

Your girl cousin may have regrets, but she may not. All you can do is be there for her - and for all your family members.

Maybe she needs a few chickens...

Bobby's been working at a job with his friends - all last week and probably the next couple of days at least. This may be a good time to schedule a chicken lunch.

Anyone want to try to get together? Maybe tomorrow?

Thanks! Yeah, it was good to see my family, no matter the circumstances and just talk to them and be with them. Funny how when I was a kid I found these people annoying and impossible to understand. I figured out something though. No matter how long it is between visits, family will always love you. When I came in, it was 5 minutes of catching up, then business as usual. I heard from my cousins ex wife, and she told me he's away this week, so she's gonna call him. he's more likely to answer her calls since it could be important. (I never talk to him, he should assume MY calls MUST be important. He's kind of a jerk, always has been, but he's family!)

All the influx of new chickens sounds so great! I have one more inside the house, Dandelion, the BO, and I'm hoping to get her out soon-I feel bad for her, only having kids to hang out with. She's so sweet, but so much smaller than the big girls. Miss Boots and Henrietta are smaller than her, but they kinda pick on her too. Maybe I'll try her outside by friday.

I can't imagine her being in charge of a goldfish, let alone a chicken. They live on the 17th floor of a building in Brooklyn heights (Right by the foot of the Brooklyn bridge). no room for chickens. I showed my Aunt my pictures of the girls, and she was interested, asking good questions, are they free range, organic, etc...but she grew up in a small farm town in Israel. My cousin, not so much...

I'd love to see about getting together. What would you like to do? It's supposed to be oppressive heat and air conditions, so maybe inside or the beach? I have to see what's up with the Brooklynites, but otherwise, I'd love it!

I just love my new hens. I enjoy them even more than I thought I would. Because of the heat, I've been letting them free range a little more so they can find some cool spots. I was sitting on the ground when my white rock, Martha, jumped up and sat down on my leg and let me pet her. So cute

That's the kind of thing that makes it even more worthwhile raising chickens. I know they sure can lower my blood pressure just watching their silly antics. Enjoy!

What ninja deeds are u up totoday roberta?
I am online too much these past few days escaping the darned heat. God help me......I keep forcing myself to stop buying eggs. I need a JOB!
