Al, I am getting some powdery mildew on my zucc............what to do???? Any good remedies to suggest? They are in full sun and I am not over watering them at all. I just want to stop it from spreading.

---- alright, finally had a chance to catch up with the whole thread, and I suppose i have to continue to cut leaves and / or start removing entire plants. I am disappointed none of my yellow squashes took hold but eh, there's always next year. I am getting some powder mildew so I will try the milk cure after I prune away. I am still waiting for melons to develop, I have vines and flowers but no budding fruits. Maybe I'll get melons by October, oh well. I am ready to call it quits on the melon patch anyway, this is just too much to handle with all the crazy freebie tomato plants that pop up due to the compost heap.

Suzanne, if you have too many cucumbers try the White Gazpacho recipe in Joy of Cooking. I tried it, but didn't use half and half, just yogurt and low-fat buttermilk - delicious! It's nice to have in the fridge for lunch or snack when you are hearing the ice cream calling your name instead. We also make lots of different sorts of pickles, the kids like to do it and leave them in the fridge. I call it a vegetable, especially since it hasn't been cooked.

Christine, sorry to hear you're sick, so's the husband. Nothing worse than a summer cold, blah. Stay hydrated I guess.

Cleaning out the coop tomorrow, ugh, really not looking forward to it, hopefully it will stop raining by 10:00am.

I have a patch with zuccini, yellow squash, and pumpkins that is going crazy, but is dropping a bunch of blossoms since the past few days of rain. I put newspaper down to try to keep the the weeds down between plants and it might be helping to keep spores from splashing out of the dirt and on the plants. I am not sure if it is what is helping or not, but so far, knock on wood, I don't have any mildew. I also let them get pretty dry between watering (rains aside). Next year I am going to train them up an angled trellis to keep them dry and yet able to water enough.

Your remedy sounds perfect to me. I am trying to train mine along a 200 year old stone wall and they are doi ng pretty well actually.:<) But I now see I need to space them wider.

Well, we had a lovely dinner with Bobby's cousin and her husband and Bobby's friend Tommy. I love Tommy - a big bear of a Viking. Apparently, Bobby's cousin Toni just had a tummy tuck (jeez, more plastic surgery) so she wasn't feeling so great. Her husband tried a few times to bait me with certain remarks but I was having none of it. You'd be proud at how well I handled myself. Toni seemed to pick up on it and kept steering the conversation away from anything controversial. We did get into a discussion of the chickens, but I was amazed that Phil (Toni's husband) had no snide remarks to make. Other than her obsession with her appearance, Toni is very sweet and a lot of fun. Don't really get the attraction to Phil, although he is very handsome. But to me handsome starts on the inside, so Phil doesn't get there. Anyway, I looked great so I felt good and had a great meal. Time for some crocheting before bed...

Maybe its because Phil pays for her surgery? Sorry, had to. I had (HAD) a friend that had a husband that, well, lets say, he was, um, not really nice. To her, to anyone. BUT he had OOOODLES of money, and anything she wanted to buy, she could, including body modifications. She stayed with him for that. Not my problem anymore of course, since I had enough of him, and he got abusive and nasty with me. I gave him the verbal smackdown, and bowed out of that friendship.

Anyhow, I glad you had a good time, and enjoyed the company! I crocheted yesterday as well. I'm making a Mohair scarf in Hot pink and black. So far it's looking good. This morning has been rough somewhat-I can't wake up! My husband got up for work, woke my oldest who's working with him, they came downstairs, and I looked at them like "what?"

I think they were looking for breakfast before they left. I managed to get the toaster out, and some waffles into it, then forgot to plug it in. My husband was laughing at me (how does HE manage to be awake without coffee??) my son told me I probably didn't have enough coffee yet, and to make another cup and he'd do the waffles.

I have to take the dog out, she's got her legs crossed. I want a fence. Desperately.

It's funny, but I just said to Bobby that I just don't think Phil is a very nice person. Which is a shame because Toni is a sweetheart. But she has plenty of her own money, so I still don't get it. They haven't even known each other 2 years. Whirlwind marriage. Her second, his FOURTH! What does that tell you?

Your son sounds like a great kid. In fact, when you talk about your kids, they all sound terrific. And it sounds like you have a great relationship with them. Hats off to you for that, especially these days...

Right now I'm involved in two separate actual crocheting projects and two chart conversions. Crocheting is my life!

Is it wrong that I'm glad Bobby's working again today? I had this brainstorm about finding used bookstores and antique shops with old crochet books.

good morning , Went to see JDSouther last night at the Boulton center .Man is he handsome The show was really great.As wee pulled into the parking lot Richard lets me know the his brother and wife that he had the fight with are going to be there.he said he didn't want to go but I said I'm not going to let that rule my life. usually they have seats on the opposite side of the theater ;not last night they were 2rows below us. he didn't say a word to either of them.I just said hello and kept going. that's for them to work their SHIrT out.Lifes too short for this SHIrT especially when his brother was diagnost with prostate cancer 4 year ago(Yes he is a miracle).
