Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Thanks everyone for the nice comments about the pics of Lindsey and her birds.

Unfortunately, I have had a week from "hell" with all sorts of chicken problems. I have lost my positive chicken zen :( ...and I can't wait for things to settle down. Chickens are supposed to fun and relaxing, but that hasn't been the case lately. The extreme weather changes going from hot and humid...to rain and hail has probably not helped either.

So, i need a little sress reduction and wonder how many of us would like to work on a quilt? Anyone interested can post here and then we can take this discussion offline with a group PM. To make things simple, we can start with a lap quilt using 10" or 12" squares....possibly 4 blocks in each row and 6 rows total. Id be happy to make 3-4 squares.

Queenchick, if you can possibly share the name of the fabric company that makes the chicken wire fabric...I will start to look for it.

Wow! Thanks littlecritters! I am definitely going to put those on my list! I love the idea of apple picking and fresh cider and will definitely visit Holy Cow!

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to be checking the thread regularly until I get there so if anyone else has good ideas, I'm game!!

Oh I can't make it to Jersey! We're leaving for our last camping trip of the season on Sunday, and since they just got back from the FD trip-the camper needs a good cleaning. I think they brought all of East Hampton town beach with them.

I will absolutely make it to the Queens fair though. I'm sorry to miss another chicken gathering.

I've had an interesting 3 days of R & R while the fam was away. My thumb has been hurting me, I believe from riding my mountain bike, it looks like a compressed nerve. Well, now it's my whole hand, and I bought myself a road bike so I don't hurt myself further.

My husband and kids laughed at my choice of bikes because it's, well, PINK. Mostly white, but the pink is PINK. I do love pink and this wasy I know nobody will want to use it. It's FAST, and Loads of fun!

I got to watch all the olympics I could handle, hang out with my chickens without having to deal with "Mom, I need...____________________(Fill in just about anything under the sun)"

I missed them, but it was so nice and quiet. Last night a girlfriend and I went out to taras for a few and that was the most interesting of all. Her ex-husband (who I am friends with) showed up with his new girlfriend, who looks about 15, and another friend, and while their exchange was nice and polite, it was strange and uncomfortable. But we had a good meal and it was a good time.

Now it's back to the grind, and packing and cleaning and doing laundry...tomorrow is scrub the outside of the camper day-it takes 3 of us, and a ladder and hose. Yay-wet work in 95 degrees!

The weekend you're in Ancram ,the Warrensburgh "garage" sale will be happening. It is suppose to be the"largest Garage sale in the country.Ive never been and have always wanted to. It's 2hours from Ancram. It is on Lake George(OK 10minutes away). I've heard great things about it. The whole town gets involved. They say people and venders set up on Fri even though it doesn't start till Sat. All of Lake George has great B&B,cabins, hotels etc.

Haven't been to Great Barrington in a while but they has some nice antique shops last time I was there. Good luck .

I keep bothering Suzanne, but if anyone wants Guineas, Ideal hatchery has a sale for 8-8-12 hatchery choice keets at $1.90 each.
Minimum 25, but hubby just informed me that a few of his friends want some, and of course, I have been selected to raise them.

So if anyone wants to go in on a box, let me know.

Stoopid- I would love guineas! but my husband would probably divorce me after the week we've had... :-)

Those birds are crazy! I will never own them again.
Not good for the neighbors.
The only reason I am willing to do this is the people that want them will let them loose on state property to eat all the ticks.

I live across from 90 acres of woodland that butts up against Eleanor Roosevelt's Valkill Cottage. Letting quail loose would be great, but they might become a quick tasty snack for the coyotes. :)

I hatched out a bunch of Bobwhite this spring for a friend.
I let half of them go in my yard, and never saw them again.
One day a few weeks ago, I heard a strange noise coming from an empty lot across the street from me.
I haven't heard them since I was a kid

it was a nice surprise!
