Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Well Spooky is still breathing this morning. At this point I am going to leave it in the hands of the universe. All I am capable of doing is not giving her any more meds & supplements. If she makes it on her own then so be it.

Meanwhile, I found this story while searching the net, and I cried laughing while reading it:

Again, thanks for being so kind. Suzanne, sorry you had such a lousy day yesterday, may today be better in every way.

Good morning all. I'm very sorry to hear of everyone's sad news.
Heather I now it gets expensive for our little pets but can you bring it to the vet so he can euthanize him. I feel terrible for you. I wish you lived closer ,Richard could help.
Suzanne I'm sorry your having one of those days. Al is right . Staph aureus is the organize that causes bumble foot. It is very infectious. Wear gloves and disinfect the area . Do you want me to come help you? There are several site that show step by step instructions for removing the infected area on the foot. Most of the sites show people bringing the chicken inside and working at the sink I personally would not do that . Setup a little basin of warm water outside and do it there. Use a junky towel to wrap the chickens in so you can throw it away when you are finished. Wipe down the table you work on with 70% alcohol.have a garbage bag at you side so you can throw every thing right in it. Some people use epson salt solution I would use a bedadine solution to soak their feet. I hope this helps and doesn't make it more overwhelming. I can help,we have to be here for each other.

Happy Birthday Heather!

That was funny!

I'm just about shot. I have spent the last few wee hours searching for my sweet little Henrietta. She's a little black cochin bantam, Miss Boots' buddy. When I got home from football last night, it was dark, so I went to lock up the girls. I didn't count them like I do every single day, since it was really dark, and they are always in the house, roosting and never had a problem. Of COURSE the one night I don't check-she's not there!!! I went out early early this morning because it was thundering, and I felt like something was wrong. I'm so sure a raccoon got her, or something else horrible happened. She's so tiny and sweet, walking right over to anyone looking for treats or a pat.

Ugh. It's my fault. I should have made sure she was safe in her house last night. Now it's pouring and thundering and lightning and I can't see anything under the bush the girls usually sit under all day. What a terrible feeling I have.

Thanks, Carol. I was thinking this morning that I'd rather do it outside for the infection reason. I've heard too many horror stories about staph. Shirley is a pretty calm chicken, so I think I can handle it alone, but thanks for the offer. If I get in over my head, I may send you a 911 call!

Just to make things more fun I woke with a really bad headache this morning. Just popped a couple of ibuprofen. Heading back to bed to see if I can get rid of it...

I'm a willow. I can bend.
