Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Oh boy... arriving at JFK just in time for rush hour traffic.
Maybe by the time you pick up the rental it won't be so bad.

I can't be of help to you, but I'm sure the "pros" will be on soon...
Have fun!

That's landing! LOL!!! She won't be out of the airport until 9-10am, if JFK sticks to their uber-efficiency. (my husband would kill me if he heard me say this...) the Baggage handling is especially a little NY treat. When they throw out the first bag, then wait 15 minutes for the rest. Gives me a warm snuggley feeling of NY. (Husband worked for Aer Lingus for a few years, as a teenager-baggage handler)

I also think it's ALWAYS rush hour there. Then there's the construction barriers that never move. NYC at it's best!!

The Cochin was not mine. But she was a cutie, even layed an egg on Saturday.
One on Sunday too. So did several other hens. My girls can't get it together to lay an egg between them, and those girls were laying even in unfamiliar places! It's me.

Don't worry about NYC traffic, if you're from LA/Burbank, ou won't even notice it! But no cell phones while driving, it's illegal, and you'll want to watch for signs.

Greenfire is very, VERY expensive. JMO

You are right...their birds are quite pricey. I've got several months to do my research and try to find a breeder that sells CL's which lay blue eggs. But if I can't locate any by the spring, then I may cave in and buy from Greenfire.

Yeah, like I've NEVER seen anyone on the phone here

Legbars...
I am considering hatching out a bunch.
I just ordered Mareks vaccine.
Toxic... how happy were you with your eggs? And where did you get them from?
Like I never have enough to do, I need something to keep me happy over the winter.

OK Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess County peeps, I'm visiting this week from Los Angeles - I'll be flying in on the red eye Thursday morning landing at 6:50 a.m. I'm driving up to Ancram (just inside Columbia County) from JFK and my friend doesn't get off work until 5, so I have the whole day to make the drive through your lovely towns.

Any suggestions on places I should see, shop, eat? I'll be taking Route 22. I'm a knitter/crocheter/weaver, obviously I raise chickens and I would spend all of my time doing those things and reading if given the opportunity.

Thanks for your help!!!
Oh man did you find the right place.... :)

Ok well you missed the Lyndhurst craft fair and you're too early for the Rhinebeck wool festival - http://www.sheepandwool.com/. :( what else can I tell you? Stop by Blue Hills Stone Barns in Briarcliff Manor for outdoor lunch and walk the grounds. That's what I'd do if I didn't have to go to the accountant on Thursday.
