Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

OK Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess County peeps, I'm visiting this week from Los Angeles - I'll be flying in on the red eye Thursday morning landing at 6:50 a.m. I'm driving up to Ancram (just inside Columbia County) from JFK and my friend doesn't get off work until 5, so I have the whole day to make the drive through your lovely towns.

Any suggestions on places I should see, shop, eat?  I'll be taking Route 22. I'm a knitter/crocheter/weaver, obviously I raise chickens and I would spend all of my time doing those things and reading if given the opportunity.

Thanks for your help!!!

Flying Fingers yarn shop in Tarrytown NY off Rt 9 .
Do you quilt 'cause there is a great fabric shop I know of also.

Pinwheels quilt shop in croton on the Hudson is very very nice. Carries a nice line of Diabwo taupe fabrics. Not many if any carry that fabric . Oh no here I go.... Stop me now..

Legbars...
I am considering hatching out a bunch.
I just ordered Mareks vaccine.
Toxic... how happy were you with your eggs? And where did you get them from?
Like I never have enough to do, I need something to keep me happy over the winter.

Ok, Roberta.... Ya got me!

Put me down for two cream legbar Pullets, if you can raise them up for me til they're four months old and can hold their own against the big girls. Truth be told though, I'm more fixated on getting blue eggs than I am on which breed is giving them to me. So, if you should just happen to come across two Easter Eggers who have already started laying so we know for sure that BLUE is their product, or two Ameraucana Pullets, I'd be delighted.

Of my current flock of four, the black Marans hen is down to one egg per week, the Delaware is still very reliably giving us about five or six pink eggs per week, and the two buff Orpington Pullets have NOT begun laying yet. Their combs are big and red, and they sure look old enough
to be laying, but no squatting as yet, and no eggs.

As it's just me and DH Gene to eat the eggs, we'll manage just fine with things as they are until a couple of BLUE-egg layers join the flock, whether that's before, during, or after this Fall and Winter.

Heaven forbid you should ever have nothing to do... See, I'm just helping you to not have a long boring winter.

All best,
-Carolyn. And my offer still stands, Roberta. Crash here anytime. Upstairs suite's all yours. Fairy godmothers get red carpet treatment.

I will not only accept a few CL pullets, but I will even take a rooster. Just sayin'.

I have 4 broodies hatching a random selection of eggs at the moment. Broody poop is sooooo disgusting!

Yes I like MPC. I originally thought the chicks were local too,
but they come from Meyer hatchery I think. You can order directly
from the hatchery for a little less in price, but the customer service
from MPC is fantastic so I would order from them again. The chicks
I got from them are very nice looking, healthy and friendly.
