Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

FIRST EGG! One of my 28-and-a-half-weeks-old buff Orpington pullets gave us her first egg today. It's about two-thirds the size of the Delaware hen's egg, but just the same shade of pink.

I'm thinking LaVerne produced it, cause she's quite a bit larger in size than her best friend Shirley.
WOOOO HOOOO!!! Give that girl a shirt with a big L on it...(For LAYER!)

Good morning all... I was going to check out the LI Fair today but according to weatherunderground
It looks like rain all day long..
Suzanne, I have a large bag of yarn, most of it single skeins of cotton from my fron Susan. I taught her to knit 3 years ago when she was diagnoist with uterine cancer. It passed the time while we sat in the waiting rooms at Stony Brook Hospital. I taught several other ladies that were waiting also.Three years cancer free next month and an amazing knitter now.

Suzanne I also found a filet crochet pattern with a crowing rooster and a hen. I'll have to get you a copy .

I think that's one of the best stories I've heard in a long time. Every time I crochet I think of my grandmother (she taught me). Those ladies can celebrate their health every time they pick up the needles. Awesome!

I plan to use a lot of the small quantities for "scrap" projects - particularly an afghan. I'd love to see the filet pattern!

CFG is in hiding... I have one of my best babies showing signs of Mareks.
I am probably over reacting to another sickness... but am not taking any chances.
All hatching, and any other contact, is put on hold until I figure this out.
All of the symptoms DO NOT match. The vet says it is NOT Mareks.
But I have quarantined my self, and everything, until I figure out what is going on.

Anyone that went to the fair, if you brought a jacket, or touched any bird... please wash them just in case.

But really, I have only 1 bird out of many, just won't walk. Eating, drinking, she can move her legs, just being lazy.
She is in quarantine in the house.

Sorry to hear this, hope she is ok. Is there a test for Mareks to exclude it as a cause of her symptoms?

I'm so sorry you're having health issues. I'm in the same boat right now, but not with mareks. It's something else and we're awaiting the results of bloodwork taken from a bird we sent in for necropsy. I'm praying it isn't MG. I hear you on quarantine. No contact, no where, no how. :(

If it is MG, we're facing total cull or total permanent lockdown. None in or out. I had a few birds I'd sold previously that were supposed to be picked up this weekend but I'm not letting anyone go until the flock has been cleared by the vet. I can't believe how horrible this feels. The breeder isn't responding to my notes and I'm very unhappy about that. These were not hatchery chicks, not that this even really matters.

I hope everything works out for your bird and flock, Stoopid...

Is this the gal upstate that I am supposed to help deliver... the EOs?

Hugs to you, too. This weather has been horrible, and the birds are taking a beating because of it.

If you decide to vaccinate, these meds usually do 1,000 birds.
I will share if you want, we are so close.
I have Mareks on order, have Fowlpox in the fridge, and am afraid to see how much this will cost for all the others.
The Mareks is only supposed to be done on day old chicks.
Go figure, it's on backorder.
If the mfg made a "small flock" bottle, it wouldn't get thrown out every time someone used it on 50 chicks.
PM me if you would like to talk about this.
Everyone is welcome....this shiRt adds up big, and once the bottle is activated, it is only good for a few hours.
We could have a vaccination clinic...
I just don't know if we would be giving all the birds a death sentence having them all together.
sigh.
