Okay so I have a question for everyone
I keep reading ..and I find varying opinions on what to put in baby chick water, since they are coming next week

I need to make some decisions.
These are the things I have read:
1. Nothing should be added
2. Sugar should be added
3. Apple Cider Vinegar should be added
4. Sav A Chick or Electrolyte/Vitamin packets should be added

So who does what and why? Any bad experiences? That is what I really want to know I guess. I know Chicks are like raising children and everyone's opinion is different, so I really want to know if anyone has bad experiences with any of the above.

Me being me, I purchased the Sav a Chick (3pk) package and the ACV...always have sugar...and three different waterers...

Hi Sally I have raised 3different setts of chicks and have only used water. Knock on wood I have never lost one. They weren't very large groups 29, 11 and 6 this last time

The only time I used anything, I used Sav a Chick for the one hatchling who was struggling after a problematic hatch. I carried her around with me for a day and gave her water with Sav a Chick.

She's the grey one.

I use mostly just water. I had a shipment once that was
2 days late and the chicks that were still alive were very week
MPC told me to give them a little sugar water. I also gave
them gro gel for one day only.
If you use electrolytes make sure you mix exactly as the
instructions say cause if it's too concentrated it can kill chicks.
If you use grow gel, then do not give electrolyte water.

I got 4 CL eggs today, they sent no extras no extras coming with the second group of 9 either. I pray I get at
least one Roo and 2-3 pullets to hatch
so in the spring they can make more.

Your chicks may benefit from Sav A Chick...the stress of shipping can be offset a bit by the electrolytes. When your babies are old enough to leave the brooder, then you can start to add Braggs ACV (with the"mother") once a week to the water. At some point, if desired, you can add one capful of Red Cell to a gallon of water each week. Red Cell has selenium and other vitamins in it, that will help prevent a deficiency which can bring on wry neck. Red Cell is not necessary, but I use it as "insurance" to help keep my daughter's birds healthy.

I try to remember to add Red Cell on Sundays, ACV on Weds and then on Friday or Saturday... we feed mashed up, hard boiled eggs with a sprinkle of powdered milk on top for the birds. I think there is some belief that the powdered milk helps prevent coccidiosis. In all honesty, our birds are as healthy as horses. Even the hatchery layers we got from Agway have a beautiful sheen to their feathers.
