Sparrow Ministries - 01-06-2012 Cleaning room done!

Thank you for your prayers. Our family had a wonderful Christmas weekend. Turns out as my wife was leaving her job to come home on Thursday and her employer gave us the remainder of their food pantry for Sparrow Ministries. We were able to give some last minute fresh eggs, potatoes, stuffing and vegetables to several needy people in our neighborhood. We even had some left to distribute later to some that are in need.

Amazing how our awesome God works isn’t it?

Give God all the Praise!

Things are going well as the eggs keep coming. God has blessed and we get to bring a little help and hope to several people in need. Praise the Lord!

I love this idea. I just found this post and would love to be a part of it myself. My husband is all the time saying we need to help people. We don't know how to find out who needs help though. Any suggestions??
We have chickens and could very easily do this. Thanks and God bless you for your ministry.

I do have suggestions. When I started doin this I loaded up my truck with 15 doz or so eggs and went for a drive. With an open prayerful mind I drove out into my neighborhood asking God for guidance. I am a very shy person and doing something like this was not typical of my character so I HAD to lean of Him. I believe God lead me straight to some particular homes but of course over time God has helped me to look beyond what I normal see when I drive through a neighborhood. You can sometimes evaluate how needy a family is by how they live. We all have a “standard of living” but most of us have different standards based on our income and ability to manage our money. You can look at things like the condition of the house, the condition of the vehicle they are driving, children’s toys and cleanliness of there yard or broken down garages and fences. Please don’t take me wrong on the cleanliness part but it is a sometimes an indicator of a single mom or dad who is trying to raise children on her own and could really use a helping hand. Sometimes a family will try to live beyond there means and they may have a nice home and nice car but then have problems buying food. We have all made bad choices at some time or another so you really just need God to guide you. I suspect if you take a slow drive through your neighborhood with an open prayerful heart you can find someone to help. A simple knock on the door announcing that you have extra eggs to give away is a good ice breaker and will get you started.

Our hens are delivering a solid 2 dozen eggs a day right now. We are blessed. We have plans for a fresh new flock this spring and new building to house them. This is a very ambitious project but will allow us to rotate two separate flocks regularly so we will always have fresh new layers for egg production each year. Pray that God will make a way for us to finance these projects as our family struggles financially as well.

We have a winter weather advisory here for snow tonight and we are hoping to beat the snow this evening and deliver about 20 doz eggs before the storm hits. I have 3 doz for a lady that will get eggs on my way home from work tonight.

I am so very cheerfully bless to be able to serve God in such an enjoyable way.

Praise the Lord!

Mike - i think it is an absolutely wonderful thing you are doing. If people can come to know the lord through a track passed out, or a radio program, of course they can come to know HIM through your ministry!

Update:

Egg production is coasting at around 2 doz eggs a day and my local farmer is starting to have extra eggs again also(thank you Lord).

The new spring will bring a whole new list of new project. God has blessed us and so many people in our community. We will be working on the new water line that didn’t quite get finished last fall. We will be getting back to the new building project of which all the framing lumber is already laying at the site covered with tarps waiting on spring(thank you Lord). We will have to come up with some funds for the plywood and such but we are trusting that the Lord will provide.

I also just placed our order for the new 2011 flock of baby chicks. After getting some advice from my friends here I choose a flock of fifty ISA Brown baby pullets. They will be delivered around April 15th. These will all be brown egg layers but I bought 4 white leghorns for a few white eggs in the mix. Plans are to move quickly on the new building and try to have it ready for them in a few months.

So we have lots of work to do and need lots of prayer.

Praise the Lord!
