Great job...!!

This is what I mean... you can do this just as small or as large as the Lord leads... but as a large group of distant brothers and sisters in Christ we are making a big difference by showing a little love and kindness.

When our children see us doin things out of love they are often confused and ask questions. My kids with toss out questions like "why would you go out of your way to do something for nothing?" Also my step son who is 17 asked "Why are you BUYING eggs just to give them away?" Not just our children but neighbors and friends sometimes think we are a little insane as well and they want to know why. It gives a perfect opportunity to teach them valuable lessons by an example of what we do NOT just what we say. This is not just about eggs… it’s about how we live our lives. People are moved and changed by actions... not by just talking.

Lets SHOW Gods love don't just tell them.

1 Peter 3:15 (New Living Translation)

"Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it."

I have a 13 yr old son who tends my flock when I am at work. As a lot of 13 yr old boys do, I suppose, he is a little lacking in doing a 100% job of feeding, watering, gathering eggs, etc. I am purposely allowing him to hand out the eggs to the folks thereby giving him the opportunity to feel how good it is to help someone who can't help you back. I am hoping eventually this will be reflected in his caring of the chickens, seeing the value of what we are doing.

Update 12/16/2009

Some nice people in Kentucky have offered to donate 15 hens to Sparrow Ministries. These will nearly double our personal flock. Only issue is that they live about 2+ hours away (one way). At this point I am getting desperate for eggs so I am going to accept their offer and load up my truck to make the trip. Pray that God will provide the expense of making this trip and that they will prove to be a productive addition to our flock.

I haven’t received a return email yet with contact information so please pray that we can work out the details.

Praise the Lord for supplying our needs

Again ...Please remember us in your prayers

Mike

Awesome! I am in tears reading about this. Hunger is so very real everywhere. I was just reading that the line for food pass out in SF went around 4 blocks and squiggled around 4 times. I just told my husband that I would not be able to be there as the food ran out. I might just sob if I couldn't help them get food and would have to head straight to the grocery store.

When I first started getting excess eggs from my flock, I began giving them away to my friends (we don't live close to any family members). Since they found out what we are now doing with the eggs, they have offered to BUY some eggs from me in order to help fund my project.

I also had a donation of 50 lbs of feed this past week.

GOD IS GOOD!

p.s.Hey Mike! DO you mind if I put a link in my signature line to your Sparrow Ministries blog? That way, whenever I post anywhere on BYC, the ministry follows. Whaddayathink?

I was able to discreetly give out 6 doz tonight after our church's Christmas banquet. That makes a total of 16 dozen we have blessed others with!

And I was told today that there is more free feed coming my way!

Update on the family in need...

Two dozen of these eggs went to the family I wrote about in post #84. Well, our church 'adopts' a needful family each Christmas and this year the church selected this young family. There was an offering of $900 received last week for them. The pastor found them a nicer home to rent, with heat and cheaper rent, and paid their first two months rent. The family was living in a house with holes in the floor, you could see the ground from the living room. They were heating with space heaters so you can imagine what that did to the electric bill. Now they will have half as much to pay for electric and less rent for a nicer home. They will also be able to get their kids a few toys for Christmas morning. Oh, and eggs for breakfast.

Wonderful... Praise the Lord!!

I love what your doin…. see this works two ways. Not only is your ministry helping the ones receiving the eggs but it is also giving other people opportunity to participate in the good works through donating feed and such. I was first opposed to receiving help but I soon realized that other people need to participate also to give them opportunity to show Gods love.

I think adding a link to your signature is a great idea

After about 8 inches of snow we lost electric this weekend and kinda struggled to keep everyone warm. The temps were down to 20 deg and we moved all three mattresses into the den where we have a small fireplace. We also had to move a box of 6 pullets (about 1 1/2 month old) and a box of 30 small chicks in there also. I then stayed up most of the night feeding wood to the fire place so the kids, grandchildren, and chicks would stay warm. We did lose about 30 eggs in the bator that I tried to stack beside the fireplace for a while hoping the electric would come back on. After 24 hours of cold the eggs were a total lost. My focus had to be on my family so the eggs had to go. They would have started hatching today

. With a little work me and the family all stayed warm and weathered the storm well (we lost only the hatching egg but lost no chickies at all).

We consider ourselves blessed since we had plenty of wood to make it though and the roads cleared enough on Sunday to make my trip to KY to pick up 10 new layers for the flock. Praise the Lord!

God Bless!

Do you have an incubator? I would love to ship you eggs (fertile) in the future to donate to the cause!!!!! Help build your flock up. Can't ship live birds since i am scared but eggs........NO PROBLEM!!!
