Sparrow Ministries - 01-06-2012 Cleaning room done!

I am not saying Mike would or wouldn't be doing this with out Christ in his life, only he knows that.

Doing good for others who need help should be part of our daily lives no matter whether a person has a God they pray to or not. I know too many people who only do good deeds when they think they're going to get some brownie points for it....either with God or someone else they're trying to impress is watching. Others who I'm sure would be considered heathens by some on here that do good deeds all the time because it's the right thing to do.

I think sharing his excess eggs with others is a good thing....I never said it wasn't.

I tread very carefully and kindly not to offend anyone. If you read back across this thread I believe you will see many times I say not to give me any credit but that praise should be given to the Lord and I mean that!! I would not even exist if it were not for my Lord so please don’t give me any credit. If I didn’t do these things in the name of Jesus then I might be tempted to take credit for myself or to obtain “brownie points” from others. Pride is something we all have to guard against and I will always try my best to refrain. Jesus is the reason I have changed and I want to be more like him(who always freely served and sacrificed for all of us).

UPDATE:
The new flock, which includes 26 young chick, production red brown egg pullets, and 7 mutts are doing well through theses single digit temps. I look forward to summer when I expect a surplus of eggs from them for our community. My current hens are only producing about 5 – 7 eggs per day which is not nearly enough to supply the needs of Sparrow Ministries. Both of my other suppliers have almost stopped selling eggs as the winter has slowed down their flocks as well. Snow and temps have been so bad this past week that delivery of any eggs would have been very difficult anyway being my truck is only 2 wheel drive. I have accumulated about 5 doz eggs that I intend on delivering later this week. At the very least, I hope to visit the neediest families on my mental list. Pray for us that we might accomplish what God would have us do and that we would do it in a Godly manner that is acceptable to Him.

I am not a christian, could care less about if i get a pamphlet in my carton of eggs. I would just throw it out and say, Thank you. If you go to a church for food, they give ya a piece of paper. It's just how it goes..................

I mean if you expect not to get material from a ministry, your NUTZ....................LOL
Mike means well and that's all that matters!! For those who don't want to be thumped, don't ask for help at a place that is funded by a church, temple, etc etc.

Mike, keep up the good work. Feeding people is what matters here, nothing else
And if i affended anyone, Sorry~

My flock also has almost completely stopped laying. I am getting 1-4 eggs a day from 21 hens! Yikes! I posted a thread on it and am being told the sudden onset of teens-mid 30's temps are to blame. I can't wait to get back to normal and distributing eggs again.

I can relate to the decreased egg productions but our cold weather has been here in WV for a while now and I think my hens might be starting to get past the shock of it now. My egg production has slowly starting to increase a little. I have accumulated about 6 doz eggs through the last 10 days or so and had those packaged and ready to deliver HOWEVER (to my suprise) one of my other egg suppliers brought be an addition 5 doz eggs yesterday(for only $1 a doz btw). I packaged and labeled them last night and I’m trying to work out an evening to deliver all 11 doz. Between our van being in the shop AGAIN, my power steering pump about to give out in the truck and the wife and I both working it will be a challenge but I’ll update again soon. One family has been on my mind a lot lately.

Praise the Lord he always supplies our needs.

Update: 01/18/2010

God has blessed us and we were able to deliver about 12 doz eggs this weekend. They were well receive and mostly delivered to the ones who I have prioritized to help when I have any eggs to distribute. Temps here are on the rise and I’m hopeful that my flock will consider picking up production.

God Bless,

Mike

My goal, of course, is to have a flock that can provide all the eggs Sparrow Ministries needs without depending on the other local farms for an adequate supply. I have about 27 hens now(some are bantams that were donated but they are still free eggs). I have 7 pullets that are about 13 weeks old that will be layers in the spring. I also have a new flock of pullets that are about 8 weeks old that should add about 25 large egg layers(red sex-link) to my flock. I plan to add a new coop to my property to house these new upcoming layers but I have not figured out the funds yet but I trust the Lord will provide.

Anyone else having any luck giving out eggs?

God Bless

Last January I was told by the owner of our small company that he was going to sell and retire. I prayed about the situation and ordered 15 chickens from our local Agway. I had been wanting to get some chickens for a few years. My brother-in-law helped me convert my shed so that I had an 8x8 area for the chickens and a 4x8 area for my food, shavings storage area. I also prayed about getting some pigs to raise. It was not a good time to find pigs most order them a year in advance, but Lord intervening I was able to find three. My brother-in-law split them with me. By the fall of 2009 some of my chickens started laying, My pig and 1/2 was in the freezer, I had also purchased a few cases of canned vegetables. I lost my job the 28th of August. I did these things as unto the Lord to care for mother and myself. I thought I was being a good steward. The Lord had other plans for my preparations. I was in better shape then most,no outstanding debts other than a mortgage and I could manage that for now. He sent people my way who had no jobs and no unemployment benefits . He had provided me with the means to help these people. I had never realized how much a little bit of food and a few words of encouragement could give so much hope to someone who had nothing. Inside the egg carton I put a gospel tract and when i gave the food to the people I let them know that it was in there and that I would be praying for them. I have been thanked with tears, hugs, shaking of hands etc. I have been greatly humbled by this experience. I've also been looking for a job but to no avail at this time. I know that His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. I have been following Mike's thread since I first saw the topic Sparrow Ministries. I am going to borrow his idea of putting verses on the cartons themselves. Lord willing I will be purchasing some more chicks when Agway offers them. Down the road a piece from my house is an old falling down farmhouse present owners live in Arizona, I have asked them if I could have the two coops that are on the property. They are planning on tearing everything down including the coops. Lord intervening I am praying that they will give me the coops. I don't have the money to buy them. They are very sturdy, made of oak that the old farmer took off his property and had sawed into boards. I grew up helping on the farm from grade school till I graduated high school so they it would be sentimental to me as well as being put to good use. They are not large but built in such a way that I could attach them together. I would appreciate prayers for those coops and for me as I try to serve the Lord in this fashion. I believe that God has given me a giving heart and I pray that I will give until there is nothing left in me to give; for it is He that gives the breath of life. Thanks for letting me share.

NHbluebird, that is really great how you allow Him to use you to help so many others. I am praying that you will receive coops and many chicks to fill them to overflowing.

Mike, I am in the same position with egg production. After several meetings with the hens, production is ramping up. I went from 2-3 eggs from 21 hens to 9 a day so far.

I am saving up this week and will put 41 eggs in the incubator on Saturday in an effort to increase my laying flock. And I am striking out in a new direction at the same time. Any roosters I hatch out will eventually become freezer fodder. I will wait on the Lord on direction on giving away dressed chickens.

I too am preparing to build onto my coop(s) to accommodate the new ones that will be coming. I am hopi to hatch six or more Easter Egger hens. I think kids get a kick out of having blue or green eggs for breakfast.
