Speckled egg but my chickens don't lay speckled eggs...

It is no problem. All fresh eggs look the same when they hit the bacon grease. Who cares what the shell looks like?

Joined to relay an observation. One of our buffs killed a little mouse and swallowed it whole. She tired of running around the coop with a dozen birds chasing her so she just swallowed it. She spent about 30 minutes with a tail hanging out of her mouth, then she got it all down. She's been unfazed. That was 4 days ago. The last two days she's laid speckled eggs.
The birds are on a steady diet of organic feed and some kale. Leads me to believe that a speckled egg may be related to something unusual in the diet. The speckled egg I ate yesterday was fine.

Maybe check your girls for mites and lice. I read somewhere that they can adhere to the eggs and when wiped off leave a red blood smear. I just can't remember where I read it. Will try to find the info for you.
