I have two accurite probes in my empty bator doing my test run. One has indoor temp at 100.6 one at 101. The one with outdoor temp (probe) says 98.4-6. It seems like too big a temp difference? Is that what the probe temp should be? My humidity is running between 38 and 41 on both of them (they are only 1-2% different at any given time) and the whole C tray is full. Should I try adding some to another tray?

Hi, that is what mine was reading too, and I had the whole unit inside. It is frustrating now isn't it? ha ha
I don't have the answer but am waiting to see what Cyn tells you tomorrow. I had only one part filled with water and was wondering if I should fill the other part, too? I may throw caution to the wind and try it this way in a few weeks. Good luck!!

You guys are both ok on humidity. The probe goes inside the water wiggler. Get your medical thermometer that you take your temperature with, and stick it inside the water wiggler too. Leave it there for a few minutes (this is after the ww has had several hours to warm up) then read it while it's still in there. That should tell you if your probe is correct. My accurite is off .7 too high not really bad. My humidity is reading fairly accurate today too. I'm going to trust the manufacturer on this hatch and just fill "C" until the 18th day when I've got to raise the humidity, then I'll fill "T".

The probe goes in the ww to simulate the temps inside the eggs that should be 99.5 or there about.

Good luck and happy hatching. Do you guys have eggs coming? Are we going to get to do this together or are you going to watch and laugh at me? I'm putting them in either Wednesday or Thursday depending on when they show up.

Carrie, with this first hatch, I think it's best to do it the way Deniece is. Fill your C trough like the directions say. Put your AcuRite unit outside the bator on it's little stand, thread the probe's wire anywhere through the edge of the bator and into the water wiggler, placing the wiggler across the egg racks, perpendicular not parallel, so it won't get stuck and the racks will just turn underneath it easily. Then go by the probe reading in the wiggler. It doesn't have to stay exactly on 99.5. Mine cycles between 99.2 and 99.9 and all of those are just fine. If you can find a smaller thing to measure humidity use that (do NOT use the white square Springfield with temp/humidity because it's awful) or just do as the bator instructions say and fill the appropriate trough.
Your AcuRite readings are on all the time unless they've put an on/off switch on that unit. You can tell at a glance what the temp in the wiggler is.

Ok, now I finally understand what to do!

Sorry it took so long for it to get through my head, Cynthia. I need to pick up a wiggler and then I will be ready for a dry run for sure and now am looking forward to it again. For awhile there I was in a panic thinking I couldn't do this.
LoneCowboy, thanks so much for your help, too. No, my eggs are a "maybe" and not for months yet. sorry, I could try hatching some of my buff orps though but wouldn't want to keep them as I don't have an orp roo as yet. But I will!!!

Good! The wiggler may also be called a Water Weasel, Wonder Weiner, or other silly name. When you get one, get at least one extra just so you have it.

I get my eggs in 15 days from all over creation and have another batch set up for the second they are done.

So my WW temp is 100.4. Is that too high??? What is the acceptable range for WW temp.

And what are the dangers for out of range temps (high or low)?

And what are the dangers for our of range humidity (high or low)?
