Speckled Sussex not laying

So we’re having some trouble with our Sussex. We got her (and our other three) beginning of April at 1.5 weeks old. She laid her first very light light brown egg about 3ish weeks ago...and we’ve maybe had 1-2 more since then. We’re feeding her organic layer feed, supplements like oyster shell and mealworms. Plenty of fresh water and she acts very active and healthy, free ranges in our yard most of the day. Any ideas on why she isn’t laying? Thanks!

It’s alright! New layers take a while to get a cycle going, so it will be a while between eggs before she develops a consistent pattern.

I LOVE SSs btw! They’re such great breeds to have around! I’m down to one right now, but there will be more added in the future

I had an Orpington pullet do the same. I suspected hormonal issues. She laid a few times. Then she stopped. She was grumpy and nervous. Then she started laying again, and is nice and easy to catch.

I agree w all the above replies. Although it is normal for new layers to be sporadic, it is also possible for free range hens to have hidden nests. Lock her in for a week or so and see if she's laying more than you thought. I had a Sussex that was notorious for hiding eggs. So no one got to free range until Speckles laid her egg, then everyone could go out....

Her eggs are a different color from our other two laying. She has laid before, but we haven’t gotten one in over a week so I wanted to be sure we weren’t missing anything. That’s why I was asking. Do you have any insight as to why she isn’t laying regularly?

I think it's very hard to say that she isn't laying regularly,
with a free ranging bird that is laying at the neighbors.
I'd say keep her confined at home for a week or two,
to know her laying habits,
but might not be a good idea with your tiny coop and run.
