Speckled Sussex

Oh dear! Is this so? I have a Speckled Sussex on order and I've been looking forward to her pretty feathers in the coop.

Guess I needed to do a little more research. ...but then I have 6 hens laying now and that's more eggs than 2 of us ever need.

I have 2. One does lay. She lays very light tan eggs. Its my other gal who has decided to make a career out of free loading lol

Everyone seems to love SS but me. They are too mellow for my tastes, and I often forget that i have them.

Now welsummer have spunk and personality. Good thing there's lots of breeds so everyone can find something they like. :)

Haha! You are the only other person, besides me, that isnt all that big on the ss.

Slacker is on the right lol

From The Happy Chicken Coop:

'The speckled Sussex is an excellent layer, averaging 4-5 large, brown eggs per week. They are reputed to lay well through the winter months perhaps taking only a pause for the molt."

Not convincing, I'm sure, if yours isn't laying but I'm a bit reassured as I await my chick arriving next month.

Only have one, got her as a day old on July 10th last year and she started laying Jan 11th of this year.
She lays pretty much every day so far, but they're very round eggs.
Can't say she's meek at all, actually quite sassy, pushy and nosy.
She is fairly dwarfed though so her size may contribute to her atitude.:)
