Alas! No Speckled Sussex for me. I was so close -- she was due on 4/22. I had already named her Cecily. But Los Angeles County is quarantined for Newcastle and hatcheries won't ship to us anymore. ::sigh::

That's a bad thing. Will this ban be lifted or stay for years? Do you know?

No. I don't think there's any way to know. I'm sure it will be determined by containment of vND and they've been working on that for a year already before they recently hit DefCom 1.

Sorry to hear that. You must be heartbroken. I pray it does not happen here. I'd have to say goodbye to my chicken friends and loose my egg business.

Hello..Her comb and wattles are red. Are you positive she is not laying eggs. Possibly each Hen lays every second day and you think only one is laying.

Miracle! Sadie laid her first egg yesterday! She is my only SS and is now 15 months old. I saw her in a nest box day before yesterday but found no egg in it later. Yesterday she was in a box again and this time she laid an egg! I knew I loved her! I also knew it was her because it's a unique egg color and spotting that I haven't seen before! I'm so happy!
