Still a bit young to tell completely 100%. I am 90% sure that those are not pure SS's. They have been watered down somewhere along the line (probably within the last two generations) If I had to guess...they have brown Sussix in them; at least 25% but probably more.

DO YOUR SS GO BROODY? Are they good mothers? I have been looking for some game hens to keep around the house and after some research found out that the SS were suppose to be a broody bird.

My two are going on two years old this summer and neither have even thought about going broody. But that's only two birds and mine are hatchery stock so are more likely to have had broodiness bred out of them. If you get stock from a breeder they will probably be more likely to go broody but your best bet would be to ask the breeder if their stock goes broody much and buy from a strain that is known to be more broody.

I have not had a broody SS yet. I've got SS from two different hatcheries that are over two years old and have never gone broody. I have SS (that are about 13 months old) from two different breeders and have not gone broody yet. I've got SS from a BYC person (these are about 7 months old ) and have not gone broody either. For comparison sake, I have an ameracauna that is 11 months old and she has gone broody TWICE already. She hatched and raised the first set of chicks, went back to the flock, and is setting on the second set of eggs right now. They are due to hatch this week.

The peachy-colored egg at 6 O' clock is a SS egg. They tend to be rounded-oval in shape, tinted and medium in size. My SS's laid pretty regularly.
