Spiral Leg Bands?

I have never used spiral leg bands. I get the colored and numbered zip tie leg bands. I have used them for quite a few years. The only problem I have had with them. Is not getting them quite tight enough. Them having them slip off the leg over a balled up foot.

Sadly my duck who was injured by the spiral leg band has to be euthanise as the band injury resulted in a broken leg, which at first appeared to be rejoining with splinting but then went backward and became a non uinion. being an older duck with arthritis 3 different vets felt that her leg bone quality was not good enough to withstand having a pin inserted to repair the fracture and that has left me with euthanasia as the only option. Really frustrated, not at the vets but tpat the fact that if this product was not on the market, which in my opin it should not be, my lovely girl would still have arthritis, but it would not stop her continuing to live out her life as she has done in the last year (which has included raising ducklings and finding herself a much younger and very handsome drake as her mate). So it sucks that in a few days her time on this earth will be over thanks to a shitty product and what I am now feeling is a greedy company more interested in profit than spending a few bucks to remove the needle sharp end off their spiral leg band and keep the birds who wear them safe.
ive attached a photo of the leg bands that injured and now ultimately have killed my wee duck and implore anyone who is needing leg bands to NOT use any that look like this. The sharp pointy end (which was what penetrated the skin of my duck and then allowed the band to wind itself into her leg going around the tissue inside the circumference of her leg ) has been circled in red.
